Barking the Tires?
Roadkill,
As you can see by my sig, I have nearly the same truck as you, exceptions being a 3:08 rear end and P235/70R16's, the stock rubber. Even before I slapped an Airaid and a Vortex Cherry Bomb muffler onto the truck, I could spin the tires and leave a black streak down the street.....well at least one side, since it's not limited slip.
But the two performance mods definitely have upped the punch and fun factor whenever I drive, and I'm looking forward to Superchipping myself someday...hopefully soon!
I have a feeling you'll hear your dogs howl once you get a Superchip into your rig's computer. Or it might be you...and you won't be able to hear the tires.

I've the 5 speed, but otherwise like yours. And no it doesn't spin unless road conditions allow it. Every time I've gone WOT from a stand still (example would be taking off at light w/chevy next to me) the rear tires do not spin. But add in a little rain or some loose dirt on the road and the rear in spins all over the place. Personally I perfer it not to spin!! Spining takes time and while I sit there spinning, the other guy is winning.

If my truck will bark the tires off the line, I think a superchipped truck like mine will lay some rubber. Oh, and yesterday, while driving in the rain at 40mph, I gunned it and the tires spun for about 5 seconds!

Just my 2 cents, Last night I tried a WOT start at a light and barely got a chirp! My brother-in-law was in the truck with me (chevy fan, 97 suburban) and was impressed with being sunk into the seat, but not much noise to attract attention. I think that LS really shuts down the chirping/spinning on dry pavement.

I've tried lighting up the tires from a stand still but no luck yet even with the mods. If i'm turning the tires will spin so I think it may be because of the limited slip. If you power brake to about 2500 rpm then the let loose and leaves a stretch untill you take yopur foot off the pedal.

A few people have mentioned limeted slip which I also have. Does that simply mean that both tires instead of one will spin? Also, in 4X4 mode with the limeted slip will all 4 wheels indeed be powering all the time? Thanks

Dear Roadkill,
It all depends on how hot & humid it is that day, combined with the weight of your truck. There can be quite a bit of spread in weight among the various configurations of F-150's, 4X2's, short cabs, 4X4 long beds Super Cabs, etc., etc. One 4.6 truck won't burn rubber *with* the Superchip, and another lighter version will boil the tires *without* the Superchip, there's that much difference in weight possible. In the winter, I'd imagine most of them will at least give you a small chirp!
One thing that has been shown to be true time after time, right here on F150online and elsewhere, and that is the Superchip is the single best bang-for-the-buck power gainer you can put on your late-model F-150, and that goes for most other computer controlled vehicles as well.
You can install the Superchip in any order you like, and it works fine with most of the popular bolt-ons most F150onwers here are using, like the Airaid kits, K&N air filters, headers, exhaust system changes, etc.
The 3 best areas to modify in most computer controlled vehicles, in terms of best power gain per buck spent, are: 1.)Programming - Superchip 2.) Exhaust system - catback. 3.)Intake - either the Airaid of the K&N airbox elimination kits. You can add an easy 50 hp or more spending less than $700 on your late-model F-150. And from there, there is still more you can do; headers, then start working on the ignition system, using hotter coil, ignition module, plug wires, etc.
I'd better stop here.....it never ends, does it?
Good luck, Roadkill, and welcome to F150online!

FYI I can spin in first and get a little bark (wof wof) in second. As a matter of fact I have to be carefull in first especialy on wet streets!!! Don't even want to know what those Nastruck tires with yellow lettering cost much less ending up in a bar ditch!

I lay down about a foot or so of rubber after popping the clutch, I also get a little chirp on the 1-2 upshift. Not bad for a straight 6 with 2.73 gears!
Just got my chip a week ago, should have gotten it first!! Next, and hopefully last mod is going to be changing the gear ratio!

Haven't got the tires to burn yet, to much grip with the BFGs. Not sure I want to because of the price of these suckers. Hey 94 F-150 good luck on keeping to the gears being your last mod. Your going have a hard time stopping the insanity!!!

Roadkillguam,
The answer is yes. Before the chip I could not spin the back tires (on dry pavement). After the superchip I put down a nice little patch. The superchip made the difference.

I currently have the K&N filter (stock airbox) and the Gibson Catback exhaust. I also can barely turn the tires from a dead stop. Although any other solid dry pavement, the think spins like crazy. Actually in the rain the LS rear end is a blast. Nothing like the look on other drivers' faces when I power slide around turns!
Will the Superchip make that much of a difference if I add it to the mix ? What
are the pro's and con's ?
Thx

Dear KTMRider,
Yes, the Superchip will generally "make that much of a difference", to use your phrase. It won't turn your truck into a Porsche, but it will add 28 hp and 46 lbs./ft. of torque. You can figure on it reducing your 1/4 mile times by a good half-second or more, for ***** the 4.6 and the 5.4 V-8. The 4.2 V-6 F-150s are knocking off closer to a full second with the Superchip.
To me, the best part of the Superchip is that it works *all* the time, not just at WOT (wide-open throttle), so it's a great improvement to overall driveability; the vehicle always feels more eager to go, in every situation. And because of the optimized spark advance curves used on part-throttle, you could also see a nice improvement in fuel mileage; that will depend primarily on your right foot, and the load you're carrying, of course. It's really just a by-product of the increased spark advance, so your results will depend on your vehicle's operating conditions, just like before the Superchip.
There really is no "down side", or "Con", to using the Superchip, except perhaps for the fact that you must use premium gasoline, just like with any performance chip. For vehicles here in the US, where good gas is plentiful almost everywhere, we can program for maximum power and efficiency by taking advantage of the additional energy in higher octane fuel. It could be said that installing the Superchip is basically a "conversion" process, where we convert the engine from running on regular gas (87) to running specifically on premium gas, 91 or higher octane. And in that process, we add power, increase engine efficiency, improve acceleration, and put a smile on your face.
And if worst comes to worst, and you have to put a tank of 87 octane in if you're out in the sticks somewhere, if you experience detonation, you can easily remove the Superchip in a matter of seconds, until you can refill with the proper gas.
My opinion on the Superchip is obviously going to be somewhat biased, considering the fact that we distribute the product, but the great thing about F150online is that we have a lot of members right here who are using the Superchip and will tell you what they think of it. It's generally considered to be the best bang-for-the-buck.
Good luck with your truck, and feel free to give us a shout if you'd like to try the Superchip. Out contact info is below.
And welcome to F150online!
