Dyno Ratings:
Power Tests
We took all three trucks to Germanson Automotive (805/981-1055) for runs on its Mustang chassis dynamometer. This dyno measures torque delivered to the rear wheels. Because of differences in the automatic transmissions and torque converters as well as rear axle gearing, the numbers will not always reflect the manufacturer's power output. Also, different dynos and dyno operators will offer different numbers, but the results are interesting. The engines with greater low-end torque, especially the Ford, posted the best numbers. The Dodge, with its truck-like grunt and 3.92:1 gearing, also did well. The Chevy engine, which is based on the Corvette LS1, is better on the top end but couldn't post the best peak horsepower number even though it is rated higher. Peak torque numbers were separated by almost an equal amount than the manufacturer ratings. The Ford was 60 lb-ft better than the Chevy, which is exactly the spread between the manufacturers' numbers. The Dodge was 23.7 lb-ft less than the Ford, while the manufacturer spread is 20 lb-ft.

Hey guys,
I think we all know which truck can burn the most rubber, on paper and off.
But, when it comes to brakes, Bill Bateman, brakes are very necessary. Gotta agree with Dunbarton...don't believe what you read. And, thanks Neal for those braking figures.
But, numbers don't mean jack when you're going 70 and the guy in front of you slams the brake pedal. I was with my wife in my F150, 2 ice chests, bunch of camping gear, my big 4x4 truck loaded when an Astro in the carpool lane slammed on its brakes and swerved to dodge a stalled car.
I had to slam on mine, do a quick swerve left, then right, all the while with the brakes to the floor, and nearing hit both the stalled and the Astro. Andrenaline rush is an understatement. But, let me tell you all, Ford brakes are tops in my book. The truck kept its poise and took it like a shot of JW Blue Label...smooth. It was awesome! I never felt so good and had so much fun nearly getting into a wreck!! Honestly, though, at the time, I almost pee-ed in my pants, and before that, I was a little concerned about my truck's ability to handle tough braking situations. But, now...hey, I know I'm in one kick-butt truck...off the line and on a dime.

fast46triton, the Popular Mechanics magazine chose the Chevy as the better truck, the Ford was faster. No where in the magazine did it say "Ford is faster, therefore better". Read closer, the Chevy won.
goat, you chevy boys are now down to arguing that slower is better? You boys are gonna love them new plastic tinker toy truck beds. They're better because they are plastic after all...

Why all the slams? If a truck owner is confident of what make they drive and is happy with their choice, there should be no need to argue and try to persuade others about it.
All this bickering shows one's age. All the American trucks are so close to the same, who cares about the minute details?
Fact is, we should all just get together here and talk trucks in general, no matter what make someone drives. For every story about a bad Chevy, Dodge, or Ford, someone else can tell a story about another.
I have owned and driven them all. I have my preference now, but that doesn't mean that the others are inferior to what I drive.
I have been through all this bickering myself before many times. Looking back, what a waste of time. I am sooooo glad I found what is truly important in life and have gotten past all of that nonsense.
Figure it out guy's. All this bickering does nobody any good. Nobody here is going to be peruaded from their prefrence from what is presented here anyway....especially if it slams what they currently drive.
Find what that one thing that IS important in life and you will never worry or stress over such petty and meaningless competitions again. Everything on this earth is temporal and can be taken from you in a second.
Focus on that one thing and your families.
Even if a scientific analysis could be done to determine which truck make is better, who really cares??? Its a truck. It can be replaced. Focus your energy on what CAN'T be replaced and you will truly have a fortune!
Take care.

Hey basscat, your truck must really be a dog... As for what's important, I know that too well having been a hare's breath away from death twice. So don't give me that 'it's all not important crap'. Your truck is just not good. Admit it so we can move along. :-)
