Bill Bateman:

Like I said before, its really irrelevant what make truck I drive. There is no way to prove one make better than another.

I won't resist the temptation to mention this though. If you equate better to speed, all you have to do is look at what wins most at the track, both nascar and trucks. GM wins more races than Ford and Dodge combined. Thats a pure proveable fact that nobody can deny. There are also more GM race vehicles than the other two combined.

Now...I like Mark Martin at the races. He is one heck of a driver. Just think what he could do if he were in a GM vehicle!

All fun, no harm intended. I don't need to put anyone down or any truck make down to have confidence in what I drive. Been there too many times and it benefits none involved.

Take care.

You're not serious are you? You do know that those race trucks and cars are not actually Fords and Chevys don't you. They just make the sheet metal look like Fords and Chevys. Underneath they are some other beast entirely; made by each individual racing team. :-)

WHAT!!! You mean the Catapiller truck doesn't really have a big old deisel cat under the hood??? I'm shocked to say the least.
I had to go look it up and sure enough it said that the cat truck here is powered by a "cat C-12 truck engine"!! How about one of those baby's to power the Ford!!

Dodge races???? in Nascar and trucks??

Also, I believe that posting to a board on f150online that the type of truck you drive is relevant since the site is dedicated to the late model F-150's. No offense to you or GMC305!! Just so you know, I own the truck listed below and a 1966 Chevrolet 3/4 ton Truck with a 427 and a 4 speed, a 1987 Camaro Z-28 with a new 383 stroker and the six-speed stick out of the new Camaro, a 1984 Cutlass (work car), and a 1998 Honda Accord with the V6 and 250HP (wife's car).

I love the way my truck looks, that is why I chose it!! Is it quicker than the Chevy with the 327, it should be! More torque down low, slightly less upper end horsepower, weighs a little more, should be close though. I'll never know though because my 1998 Honda will outrun it and my truck. My '66 will blow the doors off the Honda and my Camaro will leave the new SS Camaro and the 'Vette and SVT Mustang and Lightning wondering what the heck happened to them!!

Anyway, which is best? On the F-150 board it will be the F-150, on a Chevy board it will be the Chevy, etc. I ain't gonna go to a Chevy site and proclaim the gospel of Ford it is an invitation for an argument, even if it is just in fun.

Sasquatch:

Touche'. I would have to see the '66 beat the new C5 Vette though. I don't see it happening in this lifetime.

As far as the nascars engines, yes, they are individually built, but they are still built with GM, Ford, and Dodge technology and they do have to meet certain requirements to stay "quasi equal" for fair racing. The same goes for the aerodynamics of the body's, etc. Therefore, it is still GM, Ford, Dodge competition through and through. That being said, GM still wins more races than the other two by a large margin.

Not trying to start arguements, just facts. I would not have brought it up at all, but everyone here seems to equate speed with better and that just can't be the sole equation. I don't race my truck, even if I knew I could beat every other vehicle on the road with it. Factory trucks are not built to race and racing them tears them up fast. If I were to buy a truck used, I would never buy one from a racer be. Racing turns trucks into junk fast.

It's just my opinion. Nothing scientific and I don't intend to start a huge debate over it. Stock trucks of the big three just aren't that considerably different in quality or performance if you use them for what their purpose is for. The only difference in any of them is the preference of the driver, period.

I wish you all a long prosporous life and long Ford truck driving capability. Me...my "preference" is the Chevy or GMC. In the many years I have owned new vehicles, I have always had a new truck as well as car. I have NEVER had a bad GM product in the last 15 years. I am glad that you can say the same about your Fords.

Peace.

Geez, where do I start here?

Triton46,

I know I can't compete with a '99 Ford 5.4, even being chipped so maybe a big 'ol 5.3 Silverado Z-71 would be interesting.

Basscat,

Glad you stopped back, nooo, I'm not going to pick on you. I agree with what you say (except the Nascar stuff). I never deride anyone's vehicle. I was close to being a Chevy man last year but they wouldn't deal 'cause of the strike and thought they had the only trucks on the road.

What is most important that the owner is happy with what they bought. They have to pay for it, love it, care for it ...... It was certainly not bought to make Dunbarton happy.

Since I am now in the Ford family doesn't mean I hate the Chevy and Dodge trucks, just like mine better. And I certainly would help and Chevy or Dodge owner that came here and GMC305 makes excellent posts and doesn't take an occasional "needling" seriously. He has a nice truck.

However, the Nascar Winston Cup cars by make are about as much like Fords and Chevys as my F150 is a Porsche 911 turbo. They are in sponsors names only. Sheet metal is fabricated by the teams and must meet patterns specified and owned by Nascar. Wheels, rims, frames, shocks, fuel pumps, carbs, gas tanks, oil pans, you name it, they ain't Ford or Chevy but top aftermarket reworked by the teams.

If you saw a Winston Cup Nascar vehicle being built from the frame up, you wouldn't have a clue what the vehicle was. No driver of a Ford or Chevy could walk away from a 190 mph "wall job" let alone make that speed. And it's because these cars are custom built all over. Ford and Chevy simply give sponsorship money.

Sure, a cast iron engine block may be Ford or Chevy made but it's simply cheaper to buy them stripped and go from there.

Anyhow, Basscat, stick around with whatever your drive, you're a good man!

Raoul,

Ain't even gonna try to top THAT one. Would be my second mistake ....... the first one would be thinkin' about it!! Don't ever leave us Guy!!

Fast46Triton,

I have a few courses to suggest you take during the Summer, small engine repair is one of 'em. Bet you could turn it into a Lightning 5.4!! Love ya man!

Tina,

You're still the angel you always were!

Cableguy,

Nothin' worse than a sore loser. When I got beatup by that Dakota R/T I couldn't even get close enough to wave to him but I tried!

BassCat,
I have bad sentence structure in my previous post. '66 will not take my Camaro. However, the Camaro will outrun most anything including other hotrods. Ain't never run a new 'Vette, however I have outrun an SS Camaro from one stoplight (less than a quarter mile) to the next stoplight by more than 5 car lengths. He tried again, same result. What I meant is that my old Chevy truck will take the Honda which can take my new Ford and a new Chevy. Kinda sad!! The '66 Chevy truck is not as fast as the '87 Camaro, too heavy!! Anyway, nough said.

dunbarton, with age comes wisdom,
your a class act, i was thinking of you the other day when i was at a specialty paint store. there was a large diameter paint roller that simulated tire burn out marks. i asked the fellow if he could put some lettering in the center track to read "i'm dunbarton" and that way members could johnny appleseed it around north america. sort of like "kilroy". people are all going to be asking "who the hell is dunbarton"?

MRBBQMAN,

I'm blushing already ...... by the way, I GOT one of those paint rollers and painted my tires last week. Doesn't work, got a refund tho.

However, I sprayed my tires real good with silicone spray and THAT works, finally smoked 'em!

This is off topic so I'll make it short. BF Goodrich is coming out with new tires that have a yellow, red, or blue stripe in the tread. That would make an interesting mark on the pavement. By the way California wants them to not make the tires because they are worried that the Bloods (Red) and Crips (Blue) would use the tires to mark their territory. What's the world coming to???

WOW!
What a posting! The comments and remarks are amazing, thats what is so much fun about this site.
I agree we all need to paint "Dunbarton" all over, "He's The Man".
Bass - So philosophical, my goodness I was almost out of breath.
Raoul - I had a friend years ago that I thought had the BEST wit, but you by far top them all, I love your comments.
Fast - it's great to have you back, what a posting you started.
Tina - incredible picture. And yes it's me, not the wife, she still hasn't posted yet.
But hey fast or not, I believe in beautiful art work and these lines are a work of art.

BassCat, FYI - NASCAR this year GM has won 11 races and Ford has won 9. I am not sure of the exact count, but I think there are more GM's on the tracks than Fords.
OK just checked NASCAR online 9 Pontiacs, 18 Chevys and 21 Fords. GM should win more races than Ford - they outnumber them 21 to 27. GM only won 11... they should win more with those odds.

Sasquatch, I saw those tires on a show that I cant even remember
They look neat though. Leave Yellow treads on the ground! Lightning owners and F150 owners need these to let chevy owners know that Ford is still king of the road.
