4.2 5-speed and chip
Just wanted some feed back as to drivability not just raw speed from others with this combo. and chip.In city driving are you able to keep it in a lower gear without shifting alot as far as having more low end.any gain in milage?BTW checks in the mail for my chip.

Mike150, There is not enough low end gain to alter the way I shift my truck, if anything I tach it out a little more now because if I shift to soon it knocks (3.08 rear). I did not notice any change in fuel economy, the biggest change is the power between 2500 and 4000 rpms is definately better and exactly what I wanted.

Mike150, it did give my truck more low end grunt and I've never heard my valves rattle. Darin, you might want to try other gas or something. My biggest improvement was pulling away from a stop in second gear and general drivability with the air conditioner on. I like the feel of performance my truck gives but I do not drive it as a performance vehicle.

Okay here's what I noticed. I can go 60 in third gear while accelerating without it sounding like I'm gonna blow up the engine. When in fourth or fifth and I want to pass I can just put my foot to the floor and I actually feel some pull. Truck Cruses at 70 or 80 a lot easier now too. Better acceleration through out the gears.

Bill, I usually buy Chevron 93 octane. I did try Shell 93 a couple of times but it was no help. If I have the air on and try to start in 2nd gear after not comming to a complete stop it will knock. What kind of gas do you use.

Hey darin, I get the same thing when I use too low of a gear to start. Or when I shift to like fifth too soon or something like that. Doesn't matter what king of gas. Doesn't bother me though, I'm willing to trade the power for the hassles of having to drive correctly.

Darin, I use Conoco 93 octane. I might mention though that my truck always ran like it had the v8 even before the chip. :-)

Darin,
You might try using Texaco, Amoco, or Citgo, any of them are considerably better than Chevron. I've probably said thsi so many times people are getting sick of hearing me say it. I'n mot a fan of Chevron, Exxon, or BP, due to their lower BTU content. And if that doesn't help, let me know if you need an adjustment made, if you're getting any detonation. If this is just something that's brief and transitional, that's ok, but any prolonged detonation shouldn't be allowed, of course, and I know you know what you're doing.
Just a suggestion, and good luck!

Mike, I will try other gas, and like ccla said I am willing to drive it correctly to avoid the knocking and keep the power the chip gives me.
