octane boost?
I know that it is recomended that you use 91 octane gas with a powerchip, but since I can fill up with 87 octane whenever I want free of charge I was wondering if my truck would run fine with the 87 octane and an octane boost such as 104+ after I install a powerchip. Thanks for any help

Dear Flairside,
We recommend that you don't take that approach. Most octane boosters don't do anything much unless you use 2 gallons on 18, for a 20 gal mix. Most of them contain mainly some form of alcohol, which has high octane, but only 1/2 the raw energy of gasoline. The ones that do work tend to turn your spark plugs pink or purple, and I am just not a fan of them at all, sorry.
The true answer is, with a "good" octane booster this is possible, but I personally don't know of one that I would use or depend on to do this day in and day out in a daily driver, and it's going to be expensive anyway.
I wish you all the best,

I haven't had any luck with octane boost products in the past. Although I haven't tried it in the trucks I've owned. I have tried many in my Fairlane (428 cid 11.5 to 1 compression) and I still get spark knock. I have to mix race gas with 93 octane to a 100 octane blend and it runs great. I have tried the octane boost products that supposedly increase octane 7 points (theoretically 100 octane when added to 93) without any luck.
