Superchip Questions
Superchip Questions
Just curious...
As I understand, the superchip will boost the horsepower and torque 10-15 percent. Is there a determining factor in the amount of hp/torque a superchip will add for a particular trim/package? I'm just trying to figure what kind of results I can expect... I'll be pulling a boat on most weekends, so I can sure use a little boost.
Also, is there a warranty on the chip? I think I read a post somewhere that there is a 30 day money back guarantee, but anything beyond that?
Thanks for any info...

It doesnt matter on what package/trim you get. Its what engine you get. You will get 28hp and 46lb-ft torque. That will help out beatin Chevys and Dodges off the line and down the road and helping out with towing. Any other questions, call or email:

Hey Redman,
I just installed my superchip last weekend and really love it. I have about the same rig as you and seem to use it for the same reasons. I towed my Triton TR20 after installing my superchip last weekend and could notice the increase in torque. Nothing dramatic but if you are looking for more guts, the chip is cheap power. The installation is easy and takes around 30 mins as advertised. If you talk to Mike, you will enjoy you conversation and can believe what he says. He is very honest.
Do you tow a bass boat? I noticed your name and wonder if you fish the Redman trail. I fish the bulldog division in GA. Good luck and go for the chip.
Make your next mod the Flowmasters. They let the 5.4 breath a little more and sound awsome.

Hey fast,
Thanks for the info. An upgrade of 28hp sounds great, and I can really use the extra torque!
Triton,
Nope, no bass boat. I have a 19ft shallow draft bay boat (people mistake it for a bass boat 'cause it is very sleek and looks so darn good!) with a 115 Johnson. I fish salt/brackish water down here in New Orleans and salt water in the Daytona Beach area in Florida. The name RedMan comes from my favorite fish - the redfish. Being from Orlando, FL, I grew up a bass fisherman. I love it still, but ever since my father took me to the coast and hooked me on to a red when I was in my late teens, I spend my weekends in the salt water marshes instead of the local lakes! I troll the grasslines with artificials (mainly gold spoons), so I still make good use of all my bass-catching skills.
Wow, is this a fishing post or what? I better quit! I just have such a passion for it, I can go on forever!
Thanks for all the info, and sorry for the long post!

Triton,
Which Flowmaster did you install?
I'm thinking about replacing the muffler only because I don't want to lose any low-end torque (because of my boat)...
Just looking for ideas.
Thanks.

Hey Mike,
Sounds great, and I agree with you... this site is truely a valuable asset for F-150 owners! I luckily ran across it a few weeks ago while looking for F-150 pictures, trying to determine what the truck I ordered would look like. Still haven't seen my truck yet... in pictures or in person. It is local, though- as of last week. So any day now it should be at the dealership.
Of all the messages I've read, the Superchip must be the most praised aftermarket mod - Just a couple minor 'no start' problems, but well worth the small hassle, due to the increase in torque, hp, and response time (and hopefully gas mileage - but I *do* realize that it's a V8, and I *do* like to 'feel' the power a little too much!).
I'll be looking forward to talking with you as soon as my truck gets in. I have a trip to Orlando (from New Orleans) scheduled for next week... hopefully I'll have a superchip in place for the road trip (mainly to show off when I get there!!).
Thanks a lot!

Mike T:
I talked with two Sales people from Superchips and they have told me the MicroTuner will be available in less than two months. They did not know where one would say it would be longer (I did not mention any names). I am curious if you meant the Programmer for any truck or just Ford?
Also, I read one of your other posts where you mentioned that the code tables are not read until wot. Does that mean the Superchips does not tune at part throttle? I always thought that Superchips always tuned at part throttle in increments of 400 RPM. Hypertech tells me that they are only allowed to tune at wot because emissions are not tested from 75% - wot and to be 50 state emissions legal, they cant tune below 75% throttle position. BUT, then they say that they still tune from idle to redline. I dont understand that. That sounds contradictary to me. Maybe you can explain it better so I can understand what is going on it this area as to the difference between Superchips programming and the rest of the chipping market.
Your info is much appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Basscat,
I know what Superchips tells people who call; while that may seem contradictory, I cannot elaborate further, I'm sorry, you'll just have to forgive me. This gets into product release timetables, and confidential competitive information, so I hope you'll understand. Maybe I should put it another way: Superchips isn't resting on their laurels.
Whether a product exists, and whether or not it sells, are two completely different animals. Making a product is one thing: the product's success is another, and I stand by what I said.
I love it when Hypertech makes those claims of modifying everything from idle to redline! And you're right it *is* contradictory as heck, no doubt about it. They only modify WOT, period. Superchips tests all serious competitors products on the road and on chassis dyno, so we know *exactly* what they're doing, and what they're *not* doing.
It is true that during wide-open throttle *only*, there are no emissions standards to be met, and that is exactly why they only modify WOT parameters, so they don't have to go to the expense of emissions compliance. Hence, they do NOT make any sort of modifications to part-throttle parameters.
You apparantly misunderstood what I said about the lookup tables. During WOT operation, the lookup table data is used instead of sensor feedback, due to the emissions laws being different for WOT operations. Of course the Superchip modifies part-throttle parameters, that's the biggest reason people rave about it, because it's the only chip that works all the time!
Hypertech's claim of modifying everything from idle to redline is a sham; it's *only* at WOT that they do *anything*. What they are actually doing is modifying only WOT paramters, but you have to remember that you can be at WOT at *any* RPM, and *that's* the key, and how they get away with saying that. It's a deliberately crafted marketing statement, that is designed to fool people into thinking that it works all the time, and I have to give it to them, they have fooled a lot of people with that ploy, at least until the customer actually installs the product, and finds out how little it really does. Not that Hypertech is the only company guilty of crafting carefully worded marketing ploys mind you, it's done all the time. But hopefully in most cases with reputable companies, it's at least accurate marketing claims, and not deceitful, and that's what bothers me about that particular claim of Hypertech's.
As a general rule, I try to make it a habit not to respond to "who said what", life's too short, and it's petty in most cases, so it just makes us look bad, like all we want to do is take pot shots at "the other guy". So I won't particpate in an ongoing argument over who claims what, timetables, etc., as that is all counterproductive. What *is* productive, in my humble opinion, is to answer any serious inquiries about what the product does. When I make a post here, you can count on one thing from me: The truth, as best I know it, and not just "the company line". What you should infer from that is, read between the lines. That's as specific as I can be, and I hope you get my meaning.
They say all's fair in love and war, and competing in the marketplace is war. That being said, it's a good thing we all have a place like F150online, where the wheat is separated very nicely from the chaff, by our members. And you can't put a price on the value of that.
All the best, Basscat, and thanks for your post!

Mike,
I know the superchip needs 93 octane to get the maximum benefit.
But can the chip function properly with 87 octane gas that has been boosted to 93 octane (or higher) with an octane improver?

Thanks for the info Mike. I did not mean to imply that I did not "believe" what you said to be truthful. I was just wanting to "clarify", in case what you said was directed to Ford vehicles only.
I highly suspected exactly what you mentioned about Hypertechs advertisement on how they tune from idle to redline. I knew that was how they were able to get away with that statement. Your info helped me again, clarify, what I already thought to be true.
I plan to wait on the MicroTuner for my truck. I think I know what you mean about reading between the lines, but not sure. I hope that I wont be waiting for something that never materializes, but for my manufacture of truck, I think the programmers are my only option as my truck can not be "chipped".
God bless and take care.

Dear BassCat,
No problem at all, I understood where you were coming from right away, and so I never thought anything like that. I just wanted to make my position as clear as I could in that particular situation, so all's cool here!
Say, what is it you're driving that cannot be "chipped"?

Mike,
I purchased your chip yesterday and I'm Looking forward to installing it tomorrow. I currently have a Hypertech chip and everything you have said is absolutely correct. My question is your statement regarding SMOG regulations. I live in California where smog regs are very strict. Will pass a smog inspection with the chip installed? Thanks for answering all my questions yesterday!!

Mike Troyer,
I am about to put a supercharger on my truck and I am wondering if I should pull the Superchip and get it re-flashed or will it be fine as is? It is the SVO (Powerdyne) supercharger with 6 psi boost. I don,t want to loose the benifits of the chip just because of this change.
Thanks MIke!!!
