Mike T:

I have a new model GM truck with the 327.
It is the premo truck "for me" and my particular needs. Unfortunately for me, GM is trying to deter aftermarket parts by making the chip a surface mount chip. Only way to "chip" this truck is to professionally solder suck and resolder the new chip (chance of exceeding the heat tolerances, etc) OR replace the whole module. Neither are very appealing options to me over the programmer type choice.

By the way, just to let you know. The detonation problem this truck (and tons more just like it) was having, the revised code that GM provided along with running out all the premium octane gas, the truck runs like a striped ape and with no detonation. Not even today with 90+ degree weather. The only thing I can figure is that the higher octane fuel was causing a higher combustion temperature, which was possibly enough to "piggy back" the original problem with the code. Many of the other owners complaints have been resolved (on their own of course) by making a mod to their tstats to open a tad sooner, thus allowing cooler running temps, and ultimately cooler air/fuel mixtures. The normal tstats in these 5300's are 192-195 degrees! To me that seems awfully hot, especially when during the Summer weather towing and such, the temps can creep up over 200 degrees.

Only my hunch.

Have a good one and thanks again.

BTW, I still plan on getting the MicroTuner only now I want it even more. I have a taste now of how the truck "should" run. I was so impressed, now I am power hungry.

Its like unleashing a cheetah when you thought you had a tiger. (I may get some rashing over this one. Think?)

Basscat glad to see you "come clean" on what you drive. We all love our Fords here, but we don't hold it against people who choose to drive other vehicles. (that is as long as your not clogging up a "two-lane w/no passing" road in front of one of us) I'm glad you got your issue resolved. I had a 327 in my Nova, and it was Premo for me! He! He! GOT YA!

Dear LuvTheC,

Yes, your vehicle will pass California smog checks with the Superchip installed, no problem! Since you already had the Hypertech unit installed, the edge connector is already prepped, so you should be able to just pull it off and press the Superchip on. As we discussed, make sure you disconnect the battery fora few minutes to force the relearn, and you're set!

Welcome to F150online, by the way! I'm glad you decided to join us, and I hope you'll stick around.

Dear Basscat,

Ahh, I see, and your information is correct, you'll need the Micro Tuner for that one. the 96-98 GM trucks have been done for awhile now, and the 99's should be done soon, so hopefully you'll be able to enjoy all the same benefits.

I was glad to see a new version of the venerable 327, it was a legendary motor!

Thanks. I wasnt sure how much rashing I would get over being a Chevy dude in a Ford rally. Glad to see there is some broad perspectives out there that see that what truck you drive is truly more preference rather than one being better than another.
I have owned many Fords and have been very happy with most of them. Had a few troubles but could have just as easy been a problem Chevy too.

Take care. Nice to make a new "Ford friend".

Mike T:

Knowing the quality of the Superchips aftermarket, I am convinced the MicroTuner is worth the wait. What is even better than the product, is the SUPERIOR people I have talked to and worked with in getting info at Superchips. You are associated with a good organization.

Take care.

DonM: as far as I know, you can put the Superchip on anytime you want. It will not affect your warrenty. And you don't have to worry about breaking in the engine. About the order of adding the mods and the chip. I don't think there is a wrong way. I ended up with the chip after the flowmaster and air filter. That was the way the $ worked out!!

Dear DonMarsee,

You can install a Superchip right away. It's the first thing I do, usually before I even drive a new vehicle off the lot! The Superchip is compatible with intake mods like K&N air filters, Ram Air kits, reductions in exhaust restriction like headers, cat-back systems, etc., so you can install the Superchip in any order. Most people do it first because it adds the most power.

Just get your computer code, and give us a call! On the Powerstroke Diesels and the V-10's, your code sticker is going to be in the driver's side door frame, right under the door hinges. it will be 3 letters and a number.

Enjoy your new truck,

Hello all,
I am "going" to purchase (via Mike T hopefullty) a superchip. It's just a matter of time (mostly budget). I have been pondering on a question or two as I count change for my truck fund

Does engine "break-in" time have an impact on when to install a chip - considering that the engine behavior is "changing"?

I also plan to install a K&N filter and upgrade the exhaust. Should I time these mods so that the chip can "learn" about these all at once?

Thanks,
Ford owner for 1200 miles and counting...

Thanks Mike & Tina, I'm ready. Now just to get it through my budget committee. Just kidding. I think my wife likes my truck almost as much as I do.

Dear DonMarsee,

You're a smart man to include the wife in that process. They tend to help keep us somewhat safe from our urges to run out and slap a supercharger on, a big left, monster tires, etc. You know, all the things that can quickly put a fatal bruise on the credit cards!

Bests,

Hey mike, We all know that the Super Chip removes the top end limiter on the vehical, but would Superchips like to give any thought to a Chip that would remove the top end limiter on the passengers? When I go to WOT, they go to WOM (wide open mouth) I have a couple of people in mind to send to the Superschips testing site in FL if you need them

Well, if you're an android like Data, maybe we could do something. As for your human passengers, remind them of the seat belts & airbags.
