9100 custom tuner
Installed the custom tune today> TRUCK IS ON STERIODS
Seems to have a deep growl by the sound of it and just feels taller.
PHIL, I might be higher than 220RWHP
Great shifts, extra power just by feel. Roads a little slick due to rain so I could not get on it yet.

Great
Mine is 4x4 also but only have the 5.0L. Don't know why my sig doesn't show up.
Did you just sent it back, called and said you were unhappy about the speed/rev limiter or what? I've got this 1715 that is just sitting now. My 30 days is up 12 APR, am wondering if I should do the same or sell it here?
The 1715 was a great improvment, don't get me wrong but the 9100 custom is SMOKIN!! Just about snapped my neck this morning, it may be to much pressure with the shift kit installed. I could really tell the truck RUUUNS!! Running 33" tire from a standing stop, truck turns em until I can't take any more tire distruction or it shifts to 2nd gear with a goood scratch.
I think your going to love it Phil!

9100
they tried to raise it but only got it from 4300 rpms to 4600 rpms- don't get me wrong was very satisfied with the gains- but the speed limiter was the issue- yes they took it back- you need to dyno yours now
Hi Randy,
Glad to hear you're enjoying our custom tuning - your post is an excellent example of the "informal seat-of-the-pants" differences between the 1715, which certainly works well, versus our custom tuning.
As you know, that YAZ-series code of yours is beyond-rare, and other chipmakers usually can't or won't even do it. But we did get the stock YAZ3 code for your truck, and did the tuning based on that original code for you.
If need be, we can always adjust shift firmness levels for you if it's too stiff with your shift kit - that is something we do take into consideration up front, but if memory serves, I think you are using a B&M shift kit (I think?) - we do not use them on Ford's (we usually use Transgo, or the Factory tech valve body, or a Bauman kit, etc.), so we don't tune for the B&M kits in those 1996 5.0 trucks nearly as often as say, the Transgo shift kit, or the Bauman, etc. - the point being, that B&M kit may respond a bit differently in terms of the shift firmness levels, so if you feel you need that to be adjusted, just let us know & we'll take care of that for you.
This was the first time we've done a YAZ3-code custom tune with the modifications you have and without seeing the vehicle or having any datalog info - so we may need to do some adjustments to it. In fact, we'd like you to do some datalogging before going to the dyno (if possible), or at a bare minimum, while you are on the dyno. At any rate, give us a call when you get a chance Randy, so we can make sure we have your email address & some other info, and we can email out to you our list of parameters to have datalogged & how to do it, etc. - this is also one way to help you decide what dyno facility to go to, as some places can't even do any datalogging of anything other than A/F ratios.
Thanks for your post, good luck & talk to you soon!

Great performance!!
Quick glance at the gas milage, appears to be up. traveled 136 miles @ 7.5 gallons = 18.1MPG
THATS OVER 3MPG increase
This tuner ROCKS MY WORLD, drivability is way up. Truck does not hunt for a gear, quickly downshifts when I step hard to pass, most time a downshift is not required to speed up or pass. Response to slight increase in throttle pressure is incredible.
Mike: is there any benifit from disconnecting the battery to wipe the PCM memory. Or reload stock, disconnect battery, load 93 custom tune? Will it help the PCM learn quicker or the new program with out any past driving memory influence?

Hi Randy,
When you flash the PCM, that process "clears" the PCM of previous adaptive strategy adjustments, etc. So no, a battery disconnect after flashing the PCM isn't required, nor will it help to speed relearn.
By the way, when you go to the dyno, some quick brief info:
A 5.0 automatic 2WD truck, assuming a stock rating of 220 HP, would at best, make about 150-155 HP at the rear wheels. Again, that is at best, in stock trim, when it was new. At 100K+ miles, unless you have replaced the valve springs, timing chain, the entire ignition system including distributor, also the O2 sensors and numerous other maintenance items, it's usually not going to be capable of making it's full stock rated power any more - even if it's not using a drop of oil. Of course the truck "runs good," that's not what I mean - I'm talking about how much peak power it will actually make.
I'm just trying to prepare you a bit, so that you're not shocked if you should you see less power on the dyno than what you're hoping for. On the chassis dyno, that power is at the rear wheels, which is always going to be much less than the SAE Net at the flywheel rating. Figure that whatever it shows at the rear wheels, add roughly 65-70 HP to *that*, and you'll have a rough approximation of it's flywheel power output at that particular time.
To get the vehicle ready for the dyno, make *certain* that your truck is in the best possible condition - put in a fresh set of spark plugs, and gap them to the lowest end of the factory recommended gap setting - if it gives you a range of say, 0.42-0.48, go with the 0.42 setting, for most reliable spark at higher rpms & loads. Have a fresh fuel filter, and make sure the rest of the ignition is fully up to snuff - the distributor cap, rotor button, plug wires & ignition coil, too. If any of those components have more than 40K miles or 3 years on them, they're costing power - and use good aftermarket parts there, don't use stock OEM stuff, there's better high-performance aftermarket components available for less - we carry it all.
Sorry if I'm going over things that you already know all about, I just wanted to "prep" you a bit for the dyno - have fun & good luck!

update
well its been over 200 miles now since install. Performance is GREAT!!
The hard shifts seem to have calmed a little but still considering a reburn. Under heavy throttle the shift is quick and hard. Truck pulls thru first with authority and plants you firmly in the seat.
Shift to second results in a gooood tire scratch every time, even with a 33" tire on 3.55 gears
Second geer pulled thru 5500RPM with a quick and firm shift to third. Glance at speedo just at shift and was passing 80MPH!!!
This is a 4x4 but feels like a race car now. Truck ran great in third and pulled hard until I let off at 100MPH. Hit no speed limiter. The truck was still wantin to go
Down shifts from second to first under heavy throttle result in tire smoke as well as a standing stop with peddle to the floor. I'll be buying new rubber if I keep it up.
This is a great product, gave me the best performance for the buck TO DATE-BAR NONE!!!
MPG is up, started at 11.5-11.7 average, now 14.3-15.1.
Mike, buddy of mine is buying a tuner for his GMC/CHEVY? from you. Hook'em up.
Thanks Randy

Hi Randy,
Thanks for your update - glad to hear that truck is doing a pretty good imitation of a rubber-burning pavement-shredding monster!
All kidding aside, these posts of yours have been educational for a number of people looking at the difference between the 1715 Micro Tuner versus our custom tuning in the 9100 - since you have used both products on the same vehicle, you have been able to provide a good view of both, as well as the difference.
The additional icing on the cake, so to speak, are the mpg gains - looks like you're getting some nice gains there, too.
And of course, your truck also shifts harder than those trucks with just our tuning, as you also have that shift kit in there (a B&M, I think) in addition to our tuning - so other trucks aren't going to shift quite that hard unless they also do a shift kit or a FTVB, etc. Those shifts do calm down after the first few hundred miles of driving, as you have commented on a bit - I'd say to give it at least 500 miles, and then if you feel they are too stiff at that time, we can always back them down a bit for you, if you like - usually, adaptive strategy will take care of that on it's own, but time will tell in your case.
Have fun,

Hmmmmmmmmm, sounds a lot like what I typed regarding my truck after it's 1715 transformation.....with the exception of the 1-2 patch. Of course, I'm still running the 87 octane version
Let off at 100 mph huh? Yep, it was 80 for me but I'm in a "lose your license lose your job situation", so I let off.... but the truck was saying...."let my horses run!"
Yeah my 1715 maybe just "off the shelf" from Troyer Performance but I'm positive Anita broght it in to Mike for a sprinkle or two of Sunoco Super Premium and his blessing's before the UP guy came to pick it up
Welcome to our world Watsonr.... and this was just the "computer chips section" even!
Ain't it cool??!!
