92 octane with "max performance" program?
92 octane with "max performance" program?
Just wanted to make sure 92 octane was safe for the "max performance" program, since 93 isn't available in our area. How about a good quality 91 if I can't find an Amoco? I also wanted to make sure this wasn't simply a "drag strip" like program, and is 100% safe for daily driving, even with 3 passangers in the cab and two dirtbikes in the bed...??? In a pinch, would I be able to jerk a car out of a ditch or would I still have to reprogram first?
From what I gather, the 87 program gives 8 - 10 HP at the rear wheels, tow safe gives 16-18, and max performance gives 26-28 at the rear wheels? So to max perf. program gives about 36-38 HP at the flywheel? That's awesome!!!
Thanks guys!!!

Hahaha...51 views and no one who has the 1715 can help me.
I feel sorry for Mike, he must spend half of his days here answering all of our questions. LOL!!! I've searched till I'm cross-eyed, so I guess I'll hang out while I wait for Mike.
Reason I ask is because I only know about the "tow safe" program. I also wonder about loading the truck down because in searching I saw where Mike said no load including the bed, I thought, but in more recent posts he says it's fine.
From Mike on 8/9/03: "The max performance program cannot be used for any towing, hauling loads in the bed, etc. It's strictly for maximum performance with *NO* additional load on the vehicle."

I use the max performance tune in my truck. There have been times where the best octane I could find was 90, and I have yet to have any problems with the engine. The last I read from Mike, the problem with towing is increased EGT and lean A/F, which is why the max tune is not goot for towing. I also remember him recently saying a load in the bed or cab is just fine. Hope this helps!
Octane
with the 1715, 91 octane should be the minimum rating. Higher elevation also takes less octane to give same performance. Load the tow to be safe and performance when you know your not going to tow for a while. I would think that a quick jerk to get a car out of the ditch would not hurt, just don't floor it.
