2004 5.4L Lariat
Hi Duke1906,
The 2004 & newer F-150's cannot take a traditional performance chip as they now use a variant of the Black Oak PCM, which no longer has a J3 connector, which is where a chip would normally attach to a Ford EEC-IV or EEC-V PCM. So for the 2004's, we have to flash the PCM to upload the performance tuning.
At this point in time, there is only one choice for tuning, and it's us here at Troyer Performance - we just wrapped up the tuning R&D sessions with Superchips just before Christmas for the 2004 F-150's 3-valve 5.4 motor.
We also own a 2004 5.4 Lariat that was used as one of the R&D test vehicles, it's a 6200 lb. 4WD SuperCrew, and on that truck we gained a bit over 24 HP & 43 lbs./ft. of torque at the rear wheels on premium gas - in other words, just a tad over a 10% increase in peak HP, so it takes the motor to about 330 HP SAE Net at the flywheel (stock is 300). Our final numbers on that 4WD (which saps an extra 5-7 HP in driveline loses over the 2WD's due to the transfer case) Lariat were 247 HP & 350 lbs./ft. of torque at the wheels - pretty stout for a bone-stock truck with the only change being our tuning. nd we went right out and ran about 130 mph where it was still pulling well, but I had to back out due to big crosswinds at the time - it would probably run 135 mph or better with nothing more than our tuning.
We also are taking care of removing the top speed limiter of course, as well as optimizing the shift points, firming up the shifts, etc.
For details on this, please give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to go over all the details, costs, etc. with you.
Congrats on your 2004 5.4 Lariat, it's a beautiful truck!
