well

if ya wanna run cheap gas- chip is out- you can 't get too much performance out of 87 octane-PERIOD
in a matter of cost per gain- i'd go with mac air intake- i'm very happy with mine- was 140$ you coul spend over $ 220 on other brans which may be stainless- and gain you 1 more hp but is it worth it- also - i live in the salt beltand mine being chrome has'nt rusted inside or out side- my .02$ phil

I you purchase a chip and use high test gas the cost is worth it. I installed it just to use when I pull my travle trailer. Now I have found that the improved gas mileage is power gain is to good to go back to cheap gas.
In the last two years I have changed my exhaust, K&N air filter, and put in 200 bucks in spark plugs( three difference sets)and they made no difference.
I purchased a Diablo chip and this was the best money spent. If you get a chip you will be pleased and the first two or three tanks of gas will burn fast because you will have to get use to the power boost and keep your foot off the gas.
Stick with a good manufacture and not a cheap one.

Hi Rancher,

Actually, even using 87 octane fuel, having an optimized powertrain program will give a bigger performance gain (meaning quicker acceleration times) than the best intake kit or cat-back exhaust system on the market.

Even though the raw power gain from performance tuning is not large when using only 87 octane, all the other things going on that we optimize, the various delays, retards, transitional effects, etc. all help to further improve the vehicle's acceleration in *addition* to the raw power gain.

What I would suggest is to pick up the Superchips Micro Tuner, as it has 3 different performance tunes - 1 for 87 octane, and 2 others for premium gas, so you can use whatever octane level you want and still get better performance, the top speed limiter removed, and all the other benefits. Then you can always add the intake & exhaust later on, as your finances permit.

What I'd suggest is to give us a call for best pricing on the Micro Tuner, and take things just one step at a time, as your budget can afford them - and the place to start with the best bang for the buck is still an optimized powertrain program - meaning the Micro Tuner.

Good luck with your decision,
