PROBLEM with 1715 Max Micro Tuner

Ok i got the tuner in. Followed all the instructions in the book( took out fuses disabled my stero and all). OK i went to the next step of pluggin in the tuner. Pluged it in and nothing happend. Is there any other special instructions i need to follow or does it need batteries. Or did i just get a bad tuner?

V8SilverSTX,

I'm sure your excited, and don't want to wait til monday to "play" with your new "toy".

But, NO, it doesn't need batteries. It is powered from the +12 volts of your OBD diagnostic port.

I would suggest you reread the instructions. With my application, I only pulled ONE fuse. The one for the fuel pump. If you "pull" more you may disable the PCM. Also make sure you have the key in the "on" position. To be safe I repeat reread and follow the instructions.
If you still have problems, call Mike T. You're in good hands.

Good Luck,

Bill

I havent used a tuner, but have used plenty of scan tools, and you do indeed have to have it in KOEO (key on engine off), at least with every scan tool I have used.

well instuctions say to have the key in the "off" position and the tuner should dispay something, then it will tell you too turn the key to the "on" position but dont start the engine. Tryed it a million times, double checked everything made sure the connections were snug and still nothing but a empty screen.

Damn I have the worst luck when it comes to buying stuff over the net. Its either the wrong thing or never works(not saying its broke or anything, I just may be a idiot and doing it all wrong).

In some cases the MicroTuner tells you to disable the wrong fuse in the power distribution box. (It did on mine.) Check your owners manual for the correct fuel pump fuse to pull.

I'd bet ya a penny that you don't have the harness pushed firmly into the plug under the dash. It's a tight fit and you really have to push the harness firmly into the plug.

I don't recall when I pull the fuel pump fuse it killing the radio and everything. I'm guessing the fuse you are pulling is the wrong one, ford has been know to change the change wiring schemes.

The whole idea behind pulling the fuel pump fuse is to "safe guard" against the computer firing an injector during the flashing process and loading a cylinder with fuel (hydrostatic lock, not a good thing).

The fuse you are pulling is proably killing the A+ voltage to your OBD port, thus no display on your Micro Tuner.

I'd try this! Pull no fuses! Plug in your micro tuner, "DO NOTHING ELSE" REPEAT DO NOTHING ELSE"
Does the Micor Tuner now show a display?

If it does, we have just determine the fuse is the problem.

Unplug the Micro Tuner, because we don't want to go any futher without having that safe guard in place!!!!

Now that the trouble shooting the problem is done and we know that the Micro Tuner is good. You have to find the fuse that kill's just the fuel pump before you can use the Micro Tuner for real.

Behind the glove box door or behind the right kick panel at the passengers feet there should be a fuel pump cut-out switch(there for in case of accident or roll over) to cut off the fuel pump. It could be unpluged and do the same as pulling the fuel pump fuse.

Your ford manual should tell you about this(it has a reset button on top to restore operation if it gets trip) thats been know to happen from just slaming the passengers door to hard.

Can't believe your ford manual dosn't tell you for sure which fuse under hood is your fuel pump fuse however.

Also are you sure that everything is off when you try to use your Micro Tuner? I mean everthing (hood closed, doors closed, heater off, foot off the brake, I know Mike has mentioned that before when using the Tuner. Of coarse that's only if you can get the thing to power-up.

Good Luck!
keep us posted

in the book it says to turn you radio off and disable amps, etc thats what i did

the only fuse i pulled was the fuel pump fuse under the hood

and yes i pused it on as far as it would go on the diagnostic port

is there a fuse for the diagnostic port if so anyone know witch one

Hi STX,

Thanks for calling us for Tech Support - Anita returned your call and left you a message with things to try - including the cigarette lighter fuse, which is virtually always the problem when you get nothing on the screen.

However, we didn't hear anything back from you, so we didn't know how you were doing until I dropped by & saw this thread today - sounds like the fuse for your cigarette lighter was blown after all.

The simplest things........I'm a smoker, so I'll always know if my cigarette lighter fuse is blown, but so many people today don't smoke (thank God), and thus many times don't ever notice when that fuse blows - but it also affects power to the OBD-II port. So once you replace that fuse, BINGO! - everything works with the Micro Tuner just like it does for everyone else here.

Glad to hear it was a simple problem & you were able to solve it - have fun enjoying your new performance!
