Tunner tow Question
If you have the new tuner their are three settings. The 87 octane, tow and the all out performance setting. If you tow at all use the tow setting only. Do not tow in the performance setting. It's all in the directions. If you still have questions do a search on this site under tuner. Good luck
I switch back and forth...
When I'm pulling our camper , I run the Towing Perf program, when the camper is going to be parked for month or so, I switch to the High Perf program... In either case, you have to run at least 91 octane... Mike T. advised me against switching back and forth between high and low octane fuels...

I leave mine in the tow setting until winter as I pull a bass boat until the water gets hard. I then changed to the performance setting. I could tell a slight difference , as far as gas mileage , I doubt you will notice any difference. Don't buy the tuner for gas mileage get it for performance. While it might get better mileage if you can keep your foot out of it the true gains are performance.
Hi Gang.,
Just to answer a quick question or two...........
The program that will get you the best fuel mileage (here we're speaking about using the 1715 3-program Superchips Micro Tuner), that will be the "MAX" performance tune, which requires premium gasoline and is *not* compatible with towing. It has the most "aggressive" tune, & thus will yield the best performance and best fuel mileage, all else being equal.
Then next is the "tow-perf" program, which also requires premium gasoline, but *is* towing compatible - this tune will get the 2nd best performance gains & fuel mileage of the 3 tunes in the MT.
Then last for both performance gains and the potential for fuel mileage gains is the Micro Tuner's 87 octane tune - it too, it towing compatible, but is the least "aggressive" of the 3 tunes, and thus will yield the least improvement in fuel mileage. It's also the only program that really has the potential of allowing you to actually spend less *money* for gas, as obviously you don't have to buy premium fuel, you just stay with 87 octane - and you *might* see a small improvement in fuel mileage on that program, but it won't be a lot.
As long as you can keep your foot out of the throttle, there is the potential for better mpg in all 3 tunes, but primarily in the 2 premium gas tunes - however, as Orlando quite rightly pointed out, the Micro Tuner should not be bought for the primary purpose of improving fuel mileage, as there is no such thing as a "gas mileage program" inside the Micro Tuner - it's a *performance* part. Now as a by-product of the increased timing on part-throttle, as well as optimization of the A/F ratios, there is the potential for improvement in fuel mileage when heavy throttle is not being used frequently - the result will depend on how the vehicle is actually operated and the quality of fuel it's being fed.
For those towing..........
No, do NOT try towing on the "MAX" performance tune, you can't do that, because the EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) may get higher than normal if you go up grades, or tow heavy loads, etc. So in short, please follow the instructions and don't try towing on the MAX performance tune.
You can tow on either the 87 octane tune, or on the "tow-perf" program, which requires premium gas - so you've got a program you can tow with on either 87 octane or good premium gas, that's plenty of flexibility. And then anytime you are *not* towing, the best performance and fuel mileage will be had on the "MAX" performance tune, so feel free to change to that program when the towing is over & enjoy maximum performance.
Just a few quick pints to some questions I saw, hope that info helps & Merry Christmas, everyone!
