Micro-tuner and interstate travel
Micro-tuner and interstate travel
Got a question
I live in CT. and will be traveling to northern MO. When I was last there I noticed that the availability of 91 or better is very limited. Most stations have 87 or 89 only. (I will be in a rural farming community).
Now I have the Miro-tuner and the problem is, as you all know, it requires 91 or better.
Is it advisable to put in octane booster to supplement the lower octane fuel or should I just remove the Tuner all together untill I leave the area
I will only be in MO for a 3-4 days then traveling bact to CT.
Thanks
Doug
P.S. love the tuner

Hi Doug,
If you can't get 91 octane or better, you'll need to go back to stock tuning - I'm assuming you have the last generation of 1715, that has the 1 performance tune that requires premium gas, as the newest generation just released a few weeks ago has a program for use on 87 octane.
We recommend that everyone do NOT use octane booster on top of either 87 or 89, as not only will that be *very* expensive to actually raise the octane level of that much fuel, but you also end up with a less than optimal fuel formulation. The *real* problem is that octane boosters generally leave pink, red & purplish deposits on the spark plugs & O2 sensors, which is why you really don't want to use it - unless your other choice is walking.
So just pull the tuning for those few days until you can get back to good premium fuels, is my suggestion.
Good luck on your trip!
