model 1715

I got my programer yesterday and installed last night. My question is how many times can I reprogram my truck? I would like to see some different shift points and other things. The way I read it is you can only do it twice within 30 days? Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh by the way whatever I did last night made an improvent already!

Hi breon,

There is no limit to how many times you can program your truck, however, repeatedly flashing the PCM, in general, just isn't something you want to do - just like you don't want to frequently reflash your PC's bios.

We urge *all* F-150 & Expedition owners NOT to try manually adjusting any shift points with the 1715 Micro Tuner immediately. Use it with all the "defaults" for at least a month before trying to customize them so you know what they are to begin with - they aren't stock any more once you've used the Micro Tuner. The WOT (wide-open throttle) shift points have *already* been optimized in the default Superchips tuning. You get that automatically when you upload using all the defaults.

Trying to adjust them manually without having used the defaults gives you no basis upon which to change them, as you don't know what they are until you use the defaults - that is why we say to use it for a month or so with the defaults.

There is rarely a vehicle where the shift points in the Micro Tuner actually need to be altered. Even if a speedometer is off, once the speedo calibration has been fixed with the Micro Tuner, the shift points automatically fall back into line. So there are basically no circumstances under which those shift points actually need to be altered in 1999 & newer vehicles, that is more a marketing feature than anything else. In 1997 & 1998 trucks, if their speedo is off and has not been corrected, then *they* can benefit from manual shift point changes to fix gross shift point problems from gear ratio or big tire size changes until they can get their speedo recalibrated by changing the speedo gear.

I have yet to see a person get better performance setting their own shift points manually in the Micro Tuner over the performance with the default shift points, just to give you an idea.

It's up to you of course, but I'd use it with the defaults for at least 4-6 weeks before manually adjusting them, so you've got plenty of time to see just where they are in downshift and standing-start situations.

Good luck!

Use the search feature this forum provides to find out soooooooo much information on this Mirotuner toy. You'll find hours of reading on just what the Microtuner can do for you.

Don't worry. You won't "blow anything up" if you read the Microtuner instructions that came with the tuner.

Now that you have the tuner toy you'll wanna make friends with Troyer Performance to really add excitement to your life!!

Hi Breon,

No, don't worry, you're not going to "blow anything up," so don't be alarmed.

Just relax and don't panic over what I posted, as the info in that post is about getting the best *performance* as well as telling about how the shift points are *already* optimized - that's all. It's not like you're going to blow up the engine with higher shift points, you're still protected by the rev limiter, don't forget.

My point in that last post was simply to let people know that the shift points are already changed in the "default" tuning, and that we advise using the defaults for at least a few weeks (we generally recommend about a month), just so you have enough time behind the wheel to get a good feel for just where the WOT 1-2, 2-3 & 3-4 upshift points are not only from a standstill, but also when you do a full-throttle downshift into 1st, for example, say, from 20 mph just for one example instance. That's all - just trying to explain that you're usually better off performance-wise taking the default shift points. There's nothing to really worry about in what you've done by raising the shift points, as the maximum increase we allow is only 5 mph over stock or 5 mph under stock, a 10 mph total adjustment range up and down combined.

Worst case scenario, if you set the shift points too high, you'll just bounce off the rev limiter and not accelerate as quickly, that's all. And that would tell you to simply lower them a bit, that's all.

So please don't be alarmed, you're fine, I'm just trying to share some information with you to help you get the best results, nothing more.

The whole "issue" I was trying to get across is simply that many times people do not realize that the WOT upshift points are *already* optimized in the default tuning, and that makes some people think that they *must* adjust shift points manually to get better performance, but in reality that's not the case.

So please don't worry, just relax & have fun enjoying your Micro Tuner.
