Reburnign Chips
Being a long time carb guy, I've resisted the EFI world for a long time but I guess I'm finally gonna give in. I've got a 5.4L F150 and have been reading thru the archives on chip programming.
One question I have is concering the PCM codes and hwo they relate to the chips. I know most of the better chips can be "re-burned" but is that the case even if the chip originally was for a different PCM code? For instance, if I had a flip chip with two programs from a Lightning, coudl it be re-burned for a 89 and 91 octane dual setup for my n/a 5.4?
Also, what are the typical "re-burn" costs for Diablo vs Superchip?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Yes!
If you had purchased a 2-program Superchip Flip Chip originally set up for a Lightning, but then wanted to use it on say, a 2002 F-150 5.4 (or 4.6, or 4.2 V6), all that would need to be done is for us to reprogram the existing Flip Chip with the new programs as required for the different vehicle, based on it's PCM code, as you mentioned.
In general, the blue Superchips modules can be used on just about any 1987-2003 FoMoCo vehicle that uses either the EEC-IV or the EEC-V PCM. All 1996-2003 F-150's use the EEC-V PCM for example, as do all 1997-2002 Expeditions, for example.
About the only FoMoCo vehicles those blue Superchip modules *won't* work on are the 2003 Focus SVT, the Lincoln LS series, 2003 Expy, & any V10 gas engine or Powerstroke diesel.
It doesn't matter if the Superchip was used on another vehicle previously, it can be reprogrammed *many* times to be used on just about any FoMoCo vehicle with an EEC-IV or EEC-V PCM that is not a V10 or a Powerstroke diesel.
Specific pricing for programming services depends on the actual work involved, and cannot be quoted here on the boards. For that info you'll need to give us a call or shoot us an email, please.
By the way, welcome to the world of EFI, it's nice to see another old carb-guy (like me) here with us!
