PCM Reflash
PCM Reflash
Now don't go raggin on me for asking this question, but it was suggested by somebody who ought to know but I think he is full of it.
Is there a difference in the harware between the ECU in a std F150 v's a Lightning?
I was told that a guy could take a std F150 ECU and have it reflashed in a Lightning and voila you hace a Lightning ECU.
True or false? (Don't ask why).

Hi F150freaky,
The basic EEC-IV's are the same except for software revision, but when it comes to EEC-V's, there are several variants.
Now among "regular" F-150's, the PCM is basically the same & sure, it can be reflashed to different software revisions. But in the Lightning, you have additional hardware that the PCM must communicate with, such as the PCM-controlled boost actual valve assembly that dumps boost under command of the PCM & other additional hardware & controls (primarily related to abuse prevention & powertrain proection) no other F-150 (aside from the supercharged Harley models starting in 2002) has.
Yes, you can flash another EEC-V to a Lightning's code (up thru 2002), and that can be made to work. However, for anyone thinking of swapping a Lightning motor into a regular F-150, their best bet is to transfer over the wiring harness & PCM, too.
We have tuned a number of regular F-150's that have had Lightning engine transplants, so it can be done, but I'd rather have the Lightning PCM & wiring harness.
