Question Needing a sales pitch

Okay, I'm on the verge of buying a chip, but need some advice. First off I have an '01 S'crew with the 4.6 and it is bone stock. I am planning on changing the wheels/tires from the stock 16's to 20's in the very near future. Also planning a FIPK and possibly a cat-back system. My questions are many so here we go. What are the fundamental differences between the chip and the micro tuner. I hear the microtuner will adjust for differing wheel sizes as well as doing all that the chip does. True? Then theoritically I could purchase the tuner and not have to worry about making another purchase after the wheel upgrade. Secondly, are "flip chips" limited to only the Lightnings? Finally, what does Superchips offer that some others don't. Any personal experiences would be great. Also I checked my computer code and couldn't really decipher the sticker very well. It looks like JVD1 but it could be JUD1. The sticker must have gotten wet somehow and now is rather difficult to read. Thanks for any advice.

Hello SilverCrew,

The Micro Tuner will allow you to recalibrate the speedometer for changes to gear ratio and tire size in the 1999-2002 F-150's. We can also do that in the Superchip module, but the Micro Tuner allows you to do that many times with no additional cost, where in the traditional Superchip you have to pay us to change that every time you want it changed.

No, Flip Chips are not limited to Lightnings, they can be used on most computer controlled FoMoCo's.

Your computer code is JVD1, not JUD1. Ford's V's can indeed look like a "U" on those stickers, so that's a pretty common mistake.

To make it easy, the bottom line here is that if you are going to do more involved engine modifications that require custom engine tuning to compensate for, then you need to use the traditional Superchip, and preferably the Flip Chip, as that's the cheapest way to get custom engine tuning for modifications. But you aren't doing any of that, so the Micro Tuner will be fine. The Micro Tuner will be fine with simple bolt ons like intake kits, cat-back exhaust systems, electric fans & underdrive pulleys.

And don't forget, the Micro Tuner is a much quicker installation, 10 minutes versus 30-40 minutes, and is a bit easier, too.

You should make use of the excellent search feature here, as that is your key to accessing the wealth of info that is already here, including the hundreds (probably thousands) of posts we've already made about the Micro Tuner. All the basics like you've been asking here have been covered here many, many times before, so all it takes is a few clicks of your mouse to use the search engine and call up more information than you could ever want, it's a great tool.

If you want to go over any of this in any more detail, just give us a call & we'll be happy to. We know you're in Germany, but having lived there myself for years that really doesn't make any difference other than taking a few seconds to figure out the time zones (we're 6 hours earlier here on the east coast, if memory serves), and long distance costs next to nothing these days.

Have fun,
