Question for Mike
Hello, I have had my chip for almost a year and I love it. Recently I installed a Transgo Shift kit at stage 2. I love the performance of that too. But I notice at WOT that it will shift to 3rd at about 5000 RPM, then shift back down to 2nd for a second and shift back to 3rd. It only does this during WOT. I read about this before I about my Shift kit. That person also had a superchip. Have you every heard of this and was wondering if you could offer some ideas what might be causing this. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Have a great day. Dan
Dan,
We cannot provide Tech Support on these message boards, as it's not only against the rules here, it's also simply not possible.
There is nothing in the Superchip that is causing this, that's obvious since you've had it for a long time with no symptoms. There is also nothing inherently wrong in the Transgo shift kit, as between all the F-150's, Mustangs & other FoMoCo's using this transmission there are thousands of people using the Transgo shift kit over the years in the same transmissions with no pattern of such issues. It doesn't matter that you may have found somebody else with a Superchip and a Transgo kit that is having a symptom like that, that means nothing in and of itself given all the many vehicles using both products with no problems. There are countless hundreds of these trucks that are using both the Superchip and the Transgo shift kit together with no such issues.
I'd suggest you start by calling the manufacturer of the shift kit for Tech Support on this, to see if they can maybe figure out what might be going on.
You also need to realize that this could very easily be a shift solenoid or other problem. It could be a fluid leak inside the tranny, a fluid pressure or flow problem, not having properly torqued the valve body back down to the 80 inch pounds called for in the spec by Ford (which requires a lbs./in. torque wrench, not a lbs./ft. torque wrench) and torquing those bolts back down in the proper sequence, etc.
There's literally no telling what the problem actually is from here, and I wish I could give you some real help on this quick & easy, but I'm afraid that nothing but proper diagnosis is going to get to the bottom of this, so start by calling Transgo, & good luck!
