best gas in ohio????
best gas in ohio????
I know that you have to run 93 with a programer but what is the best gas i live in Cincinnati Ohio and BP,Shell and marathon are the big one's here is one any better then the other i Know that the highest grade at marathon is 92 let me know what you guy's think. TIA John
Hi John,
Among the 3 fuels you listed, Shell will probably do thw best job overall, even if it is a point less in octane than the others. BP & Marathon are most likely going to have a lower energy content (# of BTU's per gallon).

I ran Shell 93 in both my Supercrew and my Lightning until all the
Shell stations up here around N. Canton switched to Marathon.
I now run Sunoco Ultra 94 in both trucks.
The performance in the Lightning improved, and I average 19+mpg in the Screw. Both have Mike Troyer tuned chips in them.
Hope this helps

Hi Marc!
Very nice of you to drop by, we haven't had a chance to talk since I got back from our 2003 Lightning R&D.
That info should be a big help since you're both in Ohio, thanks for posting, Marc!
And yes, of course, anytime you have access to Sunoco's Ultra 94 octane, by all means that's going to be the best fuel for performance & usually for mileage as well. If only we had it out here in the mountains............... sigh.....

Know what you mean Mike. The last time I was down to see you and I had the Lighting, I filled up with Exxon, and by the time I got back up to Marietta, Ohio it was actually missing under load.
Although the Sunoco stations are becoming more scarce here, I deal with one in my neighborhood that has been in the same family for 65 years and they claim they will be around for another 65 and will carry nothing but Sunoco products.
I will be going to the dyno as soon as the snow is off and the rain washes away the salt.
I will send you my extra chip, and the results especially the A/F's so you can get me that extra .4 I need to get into the 11's without spraying.
Tell Anita and Crystal I said "Heh"

Hi Marc,
Exxon is a good way to do in a high-boost motor like yours, and I know you had no choice in that area where you were as you were running out of gas.
Exxon's BTU's are so low that it just dones't have anough energy content to support anything remotely close to what you've got going on in the combustion chambers of that Lightning. Heck, we tell people to steer clear of Exxon even with a rental car!
We'll be happy to adjust the program for your A/F's, of course, not a problem. Now of course there isn't going to be another 4 tenths in the tune, but we can certainly get you down into the 11's pretty easy.
