Hey SuperCHipps
Hey Mike T(SuperCHips)...Question
Hey, i usally read your post and get allot of info out of them, i was wondering what you would recomend for a intake on my 4.2 xlt, i was looking at chips and i am not sure if i like them or not, so what do u have to say about intake. And as for duals, what about runnin a strait pipe on a cat back rather than that extra muffler, what brands do u recomend? Im lookin for moderate gains and as for the duals, a great sound when i want it but no hopefully no drone. What could you recomend...Thanks alot Taylor

Hi Taylor,
The exhaust is too involved to discuss in proper detail here in the Computer Chips section, but just very briefly, no, I would *never* just run straight pipes back from the cats myself. That would sound like absolute crappola and wouldn't get you much HP gain even on the top end, while killing your low end torque, so that's not a good move. That will basically get you some mroe noise, but not much power gain, and will hurt low-end torque. The 4.2 V6 is already weak below 2500 rpm, so losing any more torque on the low end is the last thing you want to do in these heavy trucks.
The best intake for your 4.2 V6 is the Air Force One, which will add roughly 10-12 HP at the wheels on the 4.2 V6 F-150. We've tested all the various name-brand intakes, and none of them make quite as much power gain as the AF1.
We carry all these parts and more, give us a call when you get a chance & we'll be more than happy to spend some time with you going over this in proper detail.
Good luck!
