My Superchip Experience
My Superchip Experience
I got a superchip for my 4.2 because I got a 4.10 rear end and 32 inch tires. I got a flip chip so that I can run 87 on one side and 93 on the other (they mistakenly programed it for 92, but I am hoping 1 octane wont matter).
I ordered it from Mike Troyer and just my luck my computer was one of the ones who was flawed (for lack of a better word) from the factory.
Today I took it in to a TV repair guy who fixed it and the chip corrected everything. I have yet to run it on 93 because it is almost 2 bucks a gallon but I will let you know when I do.
Thanks again.
P.S. While I am here, can I run 93 octane on a 92 chip? Thanks.

Hi Greg,
Nice to hear from you & glad to hear your local TV shop took care of the jumper issue for you!
There are a few of the 1999 models that have a jumper misconfiguration from the factory, and yours just happened to be one of them.
One thing you need to know is that your chip was not "mistakenly programmed for 92 octane." The deal is, and not everyone knows this sometimes, there is no difference in tuning for 92 octane versus 93 octane in your truck. You can run that truck on anything from 92 thru 94 octane inclusive on your Side 2 program for premium gas, so it will be fine with 92, 93 or 94 octane on that program.
In our dual octane Flip Chips here at Performance, we'll tune for the 91 octane premums on the west coat a bit differently, so there would be a slight difference between 91 and 93 octane, but there is no difference in our tuning between 92 and 93 octane.
Have fun & enjoy your new Flip Chip!
