My Re-Programmed SuperChip Killed My Idle...
Mike T. -
I installed my re-programmed chip and I've run into a problem:
When my truck is in Neutral, it idles about 650~700 RPM. It used to idle at about 750 in neutral.
When it is in Drive, the idle falls down to 500~550 RPM. Why this is a problem is that I purchased the ASP pulleys with my chip re-program, and now my lights are dimming and such when I'm idling in gear at stop lights, etc.
Is there something I can do, check, clean, adjust, etc. or am I going to have to have the chip re-programmed again?
I don't understand what happened to the idle. It always idled good, in and out of gear, with the original SuperChip program. If it would idle like it used to, I think that would be enough RPMs to keep the lights from dimming, etc.
Please let me know how to fix this before I kill my battery or alternator.
Thanks !!!

Hi B-man,
As per the vendor rules of F-150 Online, Tech Support cannot be done here on F-150 Online (nor do we do that in email, just FYI). Tech Support can only be done over the phone or in person, so you will need to call us any time you have a problem.
What I can tell you is that we have *not* changed your idle speed or any other idle characteristic one iota. There has been *no* change to any idle characteristics or idle speed in that program you have now. None. I don't doubt that you may indeed by seeing what you're reporting, so you're not loosing your mind, don't worry!
It sounds to me like this is simply the normal relearn cycle the PCM will go thru anytime you change it's programming and/or clear the PCM, and that can go on for anywhere from as little as 20 miles to as long as 1000 miles. In fact, your owner's manual will tell you that anytime you disconnect the battery (and this also applies anytime you change the programming) that the PCM will need to relearn it's basic idle characteristics, and the automatic transmission may also go thru a period of adjustment, relearning some shift characteristics, both can and will happen.
What I suspect is really going on here is just the PCM going thru it's relearn cycle, which will take time, both in miles and drive cycles. The newer the vehicle, the longer it will take. Usually basic idle characteristics are cleaned up within about 70 miles or so, but in some newer vehicles I've seen it take 700 or so miles and even longer for the idle to settle out & reach it's final result.
Give us a call to go over this, our number is just below.
