Power promgrammer vs Superchip ??

Hey guys, I am new to the whole chip concept and I am toying with the idea of buying one. I have seen several used ones in classifieds and have thought about it. I have several questions though.
1. what is the diff. between a Superchip and a HyperTech power programmer ? One better than the other ????

2. Any cons to buying a used one ?
3. Can they be set to just burn 87 or am I better off to use 92 ?

Thanks guys, I am just trying to get a little more educated on these

Hypertech only works at wide-open throttle (WOT). The superchip works at every throttle position. The Hypertech is a generic program while the superchip is tailored to your specific computer code on your truck.

If you buy a used one, you will need to make sure that it is the same computer code. If not, you will usually have to pay a re-programming fee. It may be cheaper just to buy a new one.

To realize the full advantage of the Microtuner you will need to run 92 octane.

You may also want to utilize our website's great search feature. This is probably one of the most hashed discussions on the computer chip forum. Just do a search for hypertech and you will see dozens of previous posts on which chip is better.

Thanks.

Hi DRK,

Yes, there are *plenty* of cons to buying *any* performance part used, but especially anything having to do with the powertrain program. You have no warranty, you have nobody to turn to for installation help, you have no Tech Support, etc., you're completely on your own. Not very smart unless you posess the requisite automotive knowledge to be able to troubleshoot any problems on your own, and are willing to take a risk on buying something used with no rights or ownership benefits. Some guys will do that, and sometimes they do get lucky and it works out ok. Buying a used Superchip can be a good bargain, *if* it already has your vehicle's computer code, otherwise you'll have to pay to have it reprogrammed. Superchips rarely fail, so they can be worth taking that risk of the code matches & the price is right. It's doubtful youll find any used Superchip Micro Tuners, they're too new, you'll most likely find only the traditional Superchip modules for sale used.

Hypertech is about the worst product on the market as it's completely generic (one program for all vehicles) and only changes engien tuning in open loop (basically full-throttle), where there are no emissions standards to be met. So you could end up with at best, maybe a 7-10 HP gain, or you can just as easily end up *losing* pwoer, due to teh generic programming Hypertech does.

Superchips is the only chipmaker that tunes each vehicle individually, tunes at all throttle positions for maximum horsepower and torque, and that is also 50-state emissions certified, nobody else offers all of that.

Take your time & read some of the threads in this section, & you'll quickly see what others who have actually used both products on the same vehicle have to say, and you'll quickly see why most people use the Superchips tuning too. It simply delivers a much better result while maintaining strict emissions compliance.

You're not going to see any significant power gain with *any* tuning for 87 octane gas, I'd plan on using only premium gas with a performance program, as that's the only way you'll gain any significant power.

Feel free to give us a call if youd like to go over all of this in more detail, we'll be happy to help if we can.

Good luck!
