Diablo Sport Chip
Diablo Sport Chip
I'm sure this question has surfaced many times on the message board so i apologize for redundancy.....do aftermarket chips void Ford's warranty? also, which manufacturer is best? I have a Diablo chip in my Saleen and I think it made a big difference in power. I also have a 2002 Supercrew w/the 5.4......which company makes the best chip for this application??
Thanks,
jay
Thanks,

No the chip will not void your warranty. I am sure that most chips are created pretty equally, but it all depends on the programs thy have on them. I would get a Superchip from Mike Troyer, he has better programs for many of the F-150s than just the generic Superchip program (which is still very good), because he has done R&D on these trucks and therefore has alot of experience with them, and they are the only 50 state legal chip. All I can say is that the chip made a night and day difference in how my truck performs. Give Mike a call and he can tell you everything you need to know.
Hi Jay,
The only way *any* aftermarket part of any kind can be the cause of a denied warranty claim, by law, is if the automaker can prove that the aftermarket part was the direct cause of actual damage. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is the primary legislation covering all of us vehicle owners there.
What this means is that you have the right to do anything you want to your vehicle, as long as you do sensible mods & don't *damage* your vehicle, and your warranty remains intact.
Things like a properly programmed chip, an intake kit, a cat-back exhaust system, etc., do not void your warranty, because they do not damage your vehicle.
The law basically gives us a nice set of fair play rules that protect the interests of both the automaker *and* the consumer. Slap an Air Force One intake on there, and you're fine. Throw a supercharger or a nitrous oxide kit on there and you can probably kiss your powertrain warranty goodbye!

Now, with regard to who makes the best powertrain program for your F-150? I'd say the Superchips tuning is the best, they've been tuning them longer than anyone else has, and has the most sheer R&D into that platform. Here at Performance Products, we have specialized in the F-150 platform for years, so we know the various programming products on the market pretty well from our testing, & we used to carry Diablo some time back.
The Diablo chip will work well, I'd say it's the #2 chip for these vehicles, & certainly better than anything from Jet, Hypertech, etc. However the Superchip has the most refined powertrain program, making the most safe power & is also 50-state emissions certified, something the Diablo is not. If it were my vehicle, it would be wearing the Superchip, hands down, and all of our vehicles are wearing Superchips tuning.
You have the option of the single program version of the Superchip, the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, and then the newer Superchips Micro Tuner. Which of those 3 choices you should use will depend on things like the level & types of modifications you have done (and those you do in the future) and how the vehicle will be used, etc. Unless you are going to do modifications that require custom engine tuning, the Micro Tuner is the easiest way to go, and a great combination of features for the price, including a built-in OBD-II code scanner.
If you have done or are going to do modifications that require custom engine tuning, then your best bet is the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip, as it's price includes the cost of any custom tuning needed at time of purchase (except a blower, supercharger programs cost more).
Give us a call if you'd like to go over this in more detail, discuss options, pricing, etc., we'll be happy to help & our contact info is just below.
Best of luck whatever you decide!
