Hi Forcefd,

That might not be a bad idea for you with that older truck, but you'll want to be very careful.............................

On those older 5.0 trucks (only, none of the late model trucks or SUV's), you can indeed do some nice tuning with the EEC Tuner but *only* if you *already* actually know how to tune this computer controlled engine to begin with. You'll have to understand exactly what all the various parameters actually mean and what they do and what and how they affect everything else, etc., otherwise you're begging for trouble.

The EEC Tuner isn't going to teach anyone who does not know how these PCM's work and what each function actually does and affects how to tune their vehicle. Also, it will work only if the manufacturer already has your PCM's software revision included in their available templates, so you need to make sure of both of those very important factors *first*.

Don't even think of trying to learn how to tune a computer controlled 5.0's by using an EEC Tuner to "experiment," unless you're willing to make some very expensive mistakes, and maybe a number of them. There are few better ways to cause engine damage than to turn someone loose with a tool like that if they don't already know *exactly* what they're doing with that specific computer-controlled engine. It's not like tuning a non-computer controlled engine, and is not something that should ever be attempted by a novice, meaning someone who does not have experince with the Ford PCM and it's programming in that same platform.

So I'd say proceed with caution, and only if you know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing with the EEC-IV program for your truck, then leave it up to a professional that *does* know, it'll be far cheaper than experimenting to learn.

So give that some thought, and if you feel competent, then check them out to see if they have your template, & good luck whatever you decide!

Hi FF,

It's a *very* good thought for 5.0 owners, and I didn't mean to scare anyone off with my first response to you on this, it's just that it's important to know that without significant prior tuning knowledge, it's not for the novice, that's all. That unit is helping a lot of 5.0 owners, & Super Coupe owners, etc., primarily the OBD-I vehicles is where they have the most templates available, so it can indeed be worthwhile.
