Angry Bad Bumper

I'm looking for some advice from fellow Ford owners. A year ago I was rear ended while sitting at an intersection by a guy used to go to school with. In Alberta his insurance would have went though the roof if it was reported so he told me to get it fixed and he would pay whatever it cost. I took it to the local Ford dealership and told them the story and to replace it at whatever cost. The truck was only a year old at the time and other wise in perfect condition (F 150 Flareside). Now my bumper has developed a huge rust spot on the bumper and I could't figure out why a new bumper would be rusting so soon. I called the dealership up and questioned them on it and they said they just put an econo bumper on it rather than a bumper of the original quality. I never really questioned the quality of the bumper at the time because why would they put a lesser quality bumper on a brand new truck. They have pretty much told me that I'm out of luck. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

You are probably out of luck with the dealer. If you look at the work order, you''ll probably see that the dealer is only responsible for the actual work related to installing it whereas the bumper itself is warrantied by the manufacturer.

Ford OEM bumpers are of higher quality than the slightly less costly competitors parts, so it's too bad they didn't offer a Ford bumper when they replaced it.

You can contact the manufacturer and see if the warranty is still active or you can just make the best of the situation. If it is just surface rust, you can remove it with polish and if necessary, fine grade steel wool. After that, you'll also need to polish it regularly for protection from the elements.

If you need an OEM Ford bumper, they're in high supply in salvage yards as well as on eBay.

Thanks for the reply, I kinda figured that was going to be the case. I was under the assumtion that it was going to be a ford bumper they put on. I always figured they would go with the most expensive one when they had the chance. Oh well I guess I have to break out the polish and elbow grease from here on.

What the hell kind of dealer do you have there? My dealer won't sell or install anything that isn't OEM or better. Every box I've ever seen on the back of their delivery trucks going to body and fender shops has the Ford logo on them.
