getting the swirls out
getting the swirls out
I have some terrible swirls in my paint from a previous waxing. I took it and had it buffed and still when the sun hits it right you can see the swirls(not near as bad). I really would like to get them out. Will it hurt or help it to have it buffed again? Any other suggestions.
attack of the killer swirls!!!!!!!!
swirls are a real bigtime pain the butt. If you had them buffed out bye a high speed buff job, then doing it again would really put some major wear and tear on the piant and I think IMO that buffers, even the low speed buffers, are alittle agressive. I wouldn't do another buff job on it. I like to use good ol fashoin elbow grease. I think it's more gentle on the paint and you can take your time so it's done right. I don't like polishes or waxes that require you to make your arm fall off to get them off but i just prefer arm power
Back to the swirls, next time you go attempt to get the swirls out,,, get some soft plush towels from a store in town that sells them big ol bathroom towels. Make sure there 100% COTTON!!!! A good place to buy these is at a major department store or just a local store that sells those big plush bathroom towels. Look for brand names like Cannon or Fieldcrest. Try to avoid those little buffing towels at a local automotive store as they might say there made in Korea or someplace. There not 100% cotton and there not big enough or plush enough. These towels are soft and real gentle on your paint. Using the right chemicals is important to when trying to getting rid of swirls. Find a good polish like Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover. Personally I like Pinnacle products, they make awesome products alittle pricey but well worth it. After you polish then follow up with a wax that you are comfortable with. Meguiars #26 yellow wax is a great wax and produces an amazing shine. Protects nicely as well. Check out this site as you might find some nice!!!!! products. I buy from them and most of there products are pretty sweet IMO. Good luck.

Depends on who buffed it and with what. If they just used a mild polish and a finishing pad, then you can go over it again and it doesn't do any harm.
Are the swirls from the buffer? Like, do the swirls follow the pattern he used with the buffer?
I use both a rotary and dual-action buffer and they are necessary to take out swirls.
If he didn't put the swirls in the paint with the buffer, then ask him to do a compound followed by another polish to get all the swirls out. If he put the swirl in with the buffer, then find another detailer.
Where do you live? I might be able to find you a good detailer.

I dont know what he did to it. It had terrible swirls in it and i told them i wanted it buffed out. I picked it up a few hours later and the majority of them were out. I may have to try that swirl remover. I havent seen it in the stores yet. Maybe its because i havent been looking. Thanks for all the input. By the way, I live in thomasville georgia.
What all did he tell you he did to your car?
He may have only done a polish when infact it needed a compound also. Some of the swirls could have been deeper than one coat of polish could have gotten out.
He may have also glazed the car so it would cover up some of the swirls. The glaze will wash away though and reveal the swirls in a few days.

I will have to call and ask him. I didnt know it was that detailed. I thought they just buffed it with wax and that was it. I will have to check more thoroughly into it now.

You'll have to have him polish the car to remove the swirls.
