washing and drying
washing and drying
what do you guys use to wash your trucks,, please help because the microsctraches in our trucks are getting really bad. Drying seems ok but the chamois we though were good can suck my chickens nut sack!!!!!!!!! AUTOZONE SUCKS. Please help. Any other tips, pointers are greatly appreciated.
I use a mircofiber washmitt to wash. Washmitts will pull surface dirt away from your paint. Sponges don't have anything to do that so there is more of a change of dragging it across the surface.
For drying I use 100% cotton towels and blot the paint. I don't drag it. Lay it on the surface, pick it up, repeat.

Ditto. I haven't used a chamois in years. They are grit magnets. Tiny bits of this and that easily embed themselves into a chamois skin. I don't even use terry anymore, as the little hooks that make up the material can also hide tiny little dangers (altho' certainly not even in the same league as chamois). I dry my finish with 100% cotton diapers -- a material I'm sure we all recognize that is intended to sop up as much moisture as possible. Launder them a couple times before you first use them and they're always as soft as a baby's.......well nevermind. Bad pun. I also use genuine flannel to buff out my wax.
baby diapers to dry??????????? never heard of this, Hey I learned something new today LOL!!!
Um, what does launder mean??? I know call me an idiot
And um???? genuine flannel to buff out wax?????
wouldn't that harm the paint somehow?? but hey if it works w/o the scratches, GREAT!!!!! but I still dunno about the the diaper and flannel deal.

real or not
you should use the sythetic chamie, the real chamie cotains acids from the tanning process that can burn the finish.i don,t use a chamie, instead i wash it at home with a grout sponge (unused of course) available at any hardware store. seems it traps the grit at the surface where when use rinse the spounge it releases it instead of the large pored spounges that trap them deep inside and seem to come to the surface to scratch.also use a different spounge to wash the wheels and underskirtting. after i finish i run up to the local wash and rinse it down with the wax setting and rinse it off and finish with the spot free rinse. then drive it home by the time i get there the wind has dried it for me.as far as the microscratches i use eagle one wet shine wax. applied by hand(wax on not off) then i use my wally mart buffer with the terry cloth head and lightly buff off the excess and then use the lambs wool the buff it out to the finish. a little cheese cloth(the cloth they sell in the paint section of the hardware is of a better grade than that at the auto store) to get the unreachable areas and a tooth brushe to get the lines and crevasses. been doing mine five years now no microscratches(only the idiot scratches).

I don't think they would be good for drying because it is the terry part of the towels that helps them hold a lot of water. 100% cotton bath towels is the best way to go.
Not sure about the flannel. I think it would be dangerous to buff wax of with because there is no area for dirt to be pulled up into. If you get some dirt on the surface, then you'll be dragging it around on the surface with flannel. With a microfiber towel or a 100% cotton terry towel the dirt will be pulled up into the fibers.

See I was getting all confused there about diapers, flannels, sponges and what not. Seems like microfiber and 100% terry towels are just the way to go. Reason I quote you Intel because I like how you word things and keep things straight and not saying this stuff about meguiars # 420 followed bye zaino # 69 and all that. Well I'm pretty well convinced that I need to go bye some MF towels and not some Drying cloth mitt from Autozone, thanks everyone and you Intel. Maybe you can coem do our trucks sometime LOL!!!!!!!!!!!1
Real cloth baby diapers are absolutely ACES for drying. And you won't find quality diapers at PepBoys. You're gonna have to visit Sears or Target and get the good Gerber brand, which are diapers that mother's actually put their kids into -- pure cotton, no lint, Soft, and THICK -- MEANT to lap up moisture. I havent seen too many babies swaddled in terry cloth, have you? Must be a reason. Ditto with flannel. Soft Soft Soft. There isn't Scratch One on any of my vehicles from using this stuff over the last six years. I lay on the wax, remove the haze with a diaper and buff out to a MIRROR with the flannel.
Hey! It's just my opinion and the best way I've found to do the job without worry, or having to buy a lot of fancy stuff. You don't have to agree with this method, but don't say "It's dangerous" or "Probably won't work" because you just don't know if you haven't tried.
