what to use on chrome wheels?

I have chrome wheels on my truck and I keep them pretty clean. However I'm noticing small spots on them that won't come off. I always wash them by hand and they look good but up close you can see they aren't "clean". Ill post some up close pictures when I get to my computer. I've been thinking about a mothers powerball but am worried about what's in the middle of that thing scratching the wheel. Also my dad has some wheel acid for chrome wheels and it makes his wheels on his edge look awesome, but I'm scared about the acid?
What does everyone use?

this is what I use, along with washing them with the wash mitt from the bucket.

If they are chrome with no coating, use any brand chrome polish by hand. If they are coated, treat them like any other painted surface on the truck.
