Engine bay cleaning?

Ok. I have looked now until my eyes hurt so if i have missed a previous posting on this, its because my eyes hurt . So, what is the best cleaner to use on the engine bay and what do i need to look out for? I know a guy who always cleans his engines with a degreaser like Simple Green, and then rinses. Keeps the engine looking new if you do it once a year. I have used the engine detailer stuff that you just spray on and let sit for a while then rinse. But that was on older vehicles and this is the first time for my new truck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Some excellent tips and products in these links. If you search their forum, you'll find a lot more also.

I always do mine by hand. Tedious but it works for me. The trick is to keep up with it, don't let it get really dirty.
