M205

I keep reading a lot lately about how good this polish is. Is it good for use with a DA? I don't own a rotary buffer.

I just take care of our two vehicles, not a pro or anything. I just use the DA about once a year to polish each one, and hand seal/wax them a few times throughout the year.

In the past I used Megs 80 with the DA , yellow Megs pads, (8005 I think), and got pretty good results. My bottle of 80 is almost empty, thought i might try something different.

Should I try 205?

M205 is DESIGNED for use with a DA.

It finishes well enough to be LSP-ready.

If the finish of your truck is neglected you are going to need something with more cut to really bring the paint back. And by neglected I mean it's never seen polish before and looks something like the untouched paint on the right side of the picture below.

My truck looks closer to the left side of that panel, so I don't think I need too much of an aggressive corrector. I've been polishing about once a year, for 8 years now. (It's a 2004)

BTW, how often can you polish a modern clear-coat finish before you start getting danger thin on how much clear-coat you are removing? I know factors will come into play, like how damaged the paint was and how aggressive you go after it each time.

But is there a rule-of-thumb, baseline kind of consensus? My truck has had about 8 annual polishes, with M80, no more thant two passes on each panel each time it was done. I am too cheap to buy a paint thickness gauge. Can I still polish it 20 more times or so, and not be in any danger of removing all the clear?

Thanks.

Yes, 205 is designed to be used with a DA or rotary, but still can be used by hand.

You might also want to look into Megs New Ultimate Polish which is derived from 205. UP has more polishing oils. Not a pure polish mind you, but does not carry quite as much corrective ability as 205, which is not much to begin with. Both are excellent and both are great as a finishing polish follow-up to Megs Ultimate compound.
