What is the best, easiest way to remove tree sap without damaging the paint, and plastic trim? I've got this gunk ALL over my truck!

WD-40 works great requires some elbow grease but it works good.

Turtle Wax bug and tar remover, elbow grease and a chain saw (for the offending tree) worked for me.

Okay, I asked a ton of people, with ideas ranging from 'vegetable oil' to camp fuel! I've tried the goo gone on a fender, it seems to work pretty well. I'm just paranoid about it ruining my clear coat or paint job. Also...what about the plastic trim? The directions say, goo gone might "dull some plastics"! All advise is appreciated!

A clay bar will make quick work of the tree sap and rubbing alcohol should take care of the wax on plastic trim without discoloring it.

Hope it helps.

Thumbs up

OK guys...the best tree sap removal product out there is a 50/50 mixture of water and nail polish remover.

This is what most body shops use and WILL NOT hurt clearcoats or paint finishes.

Sounds funny but man does this stuff work great 50/Water & 50/nail polish Remover is what you are looking for!!!

Cool

honestly, the easiest and safest thing i've tried is Peanut Butter!! just scoop some out with your finger and rub it around the sap. I swear it works wonders.

I hear using coarse sandpaper will get rid of it. You can even sandblast it if you want.
Just kidding,
Man did you ever get alot of weird responses
on this tread....

Good Luck.!

I use the same trick I learned while at a fish camp in Canada (with LOTS of pine trees overhead!!) Put a cup or two of regular ole' kerosene in a regular-size bucket of water. No soap. Use a soft rag. It won't hurt your paint and leaves a shine. It makes quick work of sap and bugs.

Appreciate all the suggestions. I've tried kerosene, gasoline, mineral spirits, goo gone, warm water and vinigar, simple green, vegetable oil!, turtle wax bug and tar remover. Alcohol on the windows works great...but I don't think alcohol on the paint is a good idea. What about denatured alcohol? I don't know the difference between it and the rubbing kind I used on the window. But this seems like the chemical that is working the best. Is it safe for clearcoat/paint? I've never used a clay bar...but it seems to be the only thing left! I've got like a 'mist' of tree sap ALL OVER truck and I've got to get it off this weekend. If I sound a little desperate...I AM. HELP!

tired WD 40 too...no luck. I think I'm screwed... I'm down to either clay bar or trying denatured alcohol or the 50/50 nail polish remover, water suggestion.
man...what a bummer...

Clay Bar it is. Any tips for a first time clay bar user? Brand preference?
