How do I fix this...
Like glc said if you can feel the scratch its to deep and needs repaint but if not I would try Quixx I used it a month ago on some similar scratches didnt dissapear but definatly almost gone.
AS per the other replies above, see if you can catch a fingernail in the scratches. If not, a DA buffer and some good paint correction compounds will fix it. Try Meguiars #105 or Ultimate Compound (UC available OTC). Or even some scratch compounds will work. Then go to a polish (Megs #205 or Swirl Remover ((OTC)), and finally s wax or sealant.
What the hell did he use to make the scratches?
I expect you've already locked him in the closet for a couple days. ;-)

If the scratches fail the fingernail test and repaint is not an option...
You still have options to make it look better.
Some are extensive and laborious, some may be as simple as using a moderate compound and a wax that fills and hides defects.

You need to have him stand next to it and take a picture. He can later in life be tortured with that picture, Like in his High School year book or when he wants to use your car.
It won't fix this problem but can be used as a "Tool" later in life.
Sorry to hear about your "art" work.

In all seriousness though, the recommendations above are your best bet.

Thank you for the replies. He used a 2" rock from the driveway. It was all I could do to walk away and say some choice words. I am sure that he understands that daddy's truck is not a magna-doodle. That being said, I do like the idea of the picture next to his "O" on the side of the truck.
I would say all but 2 of the scratches pass the fingernail test. I will have to see what I can come up with the others. Is there a wax that works best for black vehicles? What are some recommendations? TIA

I'm no expert, but if it were me...I would try some Meg's Scratch-X or 105...followed up with some Meg's 205 and then a coat of NXT. Maybe add some carnuba after that. Old Dogg will hook you up with some good advice if he's following this.
By hand your options and possibilities will be limited by your arms. With a DA you can easily make the ones that pass the fingernail test go away. The ones that fail the test will can be made almost invisible to all but you.
On the cheap, OTC by hand, ScratchX© 2.0 and NXT 2.0 would be the cheapest way to go.
Mail order with a DA preferred but not a must for spot treatments...Unbeatable combination.

For on the cheap just order the 8 or 12oz size.
The good and bad part of fixing those scratches is that you will probably make those areas look better than the rest of the truck and then need to correct and polish all of your paint? Not sure but in your photos your paint looks cloudy or is it just dirty?
