Help with light swirl scratches
Help with light swirl scratches
I just bought a 08 black f150, great truck! My question is, does anyone have any ideas on how to clean up all my light swirl scratches? Looks like an unexperienced detailer got a hold of it..any suggestions would be great..thanks
Swirls are almost impossible to correct without a DA buffer. You can hand-correct, but your arms will fall off first.
First Clay bar the truck. The most widely available compounds for paint correction that actually work (rather than just fill) are Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Swirl X (available at Wally World). Run the DA at a high speed and travel s-l-o-w-l-y over 2' X 2'areas Use UC first (most aggressive); follow with the Swirl X. Once you get good with these, use Meg's #105 and #205.
Once you have CORRECTED the paint, then follow with a Sealant and/or wax. Again, a good OTC product is Megs NXT 2.0 (although I now use Blackfire Wet Diamond). You may also want to try a glaze/paint enhancer like Megs #7 or Danase Wet Glaze (really makes the paint pop!).

Jim pretty much summed it up.
Meguiars makes another product "Scratch X 2.0" that falls in between Ultimate Compound and Swirl X as far as aggressiveness. As stated try and stay to no more than a 2' by 2' working area and use the round foam applicator pads in circular overlapping strokes with light to moderate pressure. Start with the least aggressive first and go up the ladder till you find the one that works. Do not let the product dry, but rather wipe off with a microfiber cloth and apply second or multiple applications if needed.
A DA will drastically reduce your fatigue level and produce better results.
