PC7424XP Question
PC7424XP Question
Was thinking about getting a 3 1/2" backing disc and some 4" LC Spot Buff pads. Is there a specific counter weight for this or can I use my 5 1/2" CW? Also, what color pad would be best to use with Scratch X? Used PB SSR 2.5 with an orange pad but wanted to see if the Scratch X would get any more of it out. Thanks!
Your 5½" counter weight is fine with 4" LC pads. The fact that you get a faster spin and more torque with the smaller pads is the reason I started using them along with working well in smaller places.
If you are already ordering stuff on line I would recommend you order some sample size bottles of M105 and M205 from ADS to try out and while you are there take a look at these pads.
I tried Scratch X once and didn't like it.
What pads work with what products depend on the type/level of correcting you are doing on what type of paint and how OCD you are.

I also run my 4" pads with the stock 5 1/2" backing plate. works great.
You really should give 105/205 a try, I love the combo. I did the whole truck yesterday with 205 and it really shined it up before waxing it.
Also I heard that ScratchX 2.0 has more cut than the original, maybe it depends on which one you're using. If you like Meg's product, pick up a bottle of Ultimate Compound, it's pretty cheap and you can find it all over.

Thanks for the replies. This is my first serious venture to the dark side. I received the PC for fathers day last year but because of various delays for family and health issues it sat in the box until this past weekend when I finally was determined to give it a try. I kept an eye on this forum trying to absorb as much info as possible. I decided to use my daughter's 95 Taurus as my guinie pig. It hadn't seen a coat of wax in about 10 years and was subject to gym bags and school books being dragged across the trunk and all the other ways high school girls will abuse a car. This after being used by my father as a run around car to take my mom to doctors appts. shopping trips (shopping carts, door dings etc.). Did the roof hood and trunk so far and was amazed how much I was able to bring it back. Reduced some of the worst scratches but wanted to give the scratch-x a try. Probably should have used it first before doing all the other steps. Clay, SSR 2.5 with orange, SSR 1 with orange, PP with white, EX-P with black, going to LSP with Natty's. This is the process I want to use on my Screw once I get the hang of it based on a previous post by Rolling Rock a while back. Plan on doing 1 more trail on my dad's 92 F150 with only 51K on it before I do mine. Want to try the smaller pads on the tight areas and with the scratch-x or should I try SSR3 first?
I'll have to read up on how to post pics and get some up but I thought for a first time, it went pretty well. Probably used more product than necessary but will learn as I go. Good to have a place to reference and get helpful info. Thanks!

Before you start on the 92, determine if it's single stage paint or color/clear. By hand, use something aggressive (M105 or equivalent) on a test spot that's out of the way. If you get color on what you are using to rub it in, it's single stage and that should be handled a bit differently.
Did a test area on the '92 tonight using PB SSR2.5 applied with a LC CCS orange hand application pad. Definetly a single stage paint as I had brown on the pad and the cloth. Took out the oxidation real nice though. What's the best way to tackle this project. Pics can be emailed if necessary.
Thanks!
Thanks!
