Buffing out outline of phone number

So I got my truck used, and apparently the person before me had a big phone number across the tailgate - but i can only see it at night when another car's lights hit it at just the right angle.

any products that y'all recommend to take it off? I was planning on using a claybar after the next time I wash it, would that take it off?

Thanks for the help

The clay won't remove letter ghosting. The paint that was under the lettering will be brighter then the surrounding area that's been exposed to the elements. Try a mild paint cleaner like Megs ColorX with a MF pad first. If the ghosting isn't bad one or two applications should level the finish out.

Plus, ColorX is a "all in one" so you won't need to worry about following it with a wax/sealant. There are other more aggressive methods, but try least aggressive first.

It looks like your truck is a 2002 so it could be some minor paint fade as well. I would see that in my dad's sign shop when changing logos.

I would try Rubbing Compound, followed by Wax.
