Polisher Pad Life

I've searched this site but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Assuming one takes good care of their foam pads, (proper soak/wash/rinse after every use), how many times would you say the average foam pad can be used for a detail?

I used two pads when I did the truck. Half and half.

I have pads that I've used for over a year and I've used them a ton. If you wash them by hand they are going to last longer than putting them in the washing machine.

Hey Juztang; it's been what.. half an hour since you've answered another one of my many questions? :o

Could you give me a ballpark figure of what "a ton" might be?

6 details a year? 10, 50, 100?

Well I own and run an auto detailing business, so I really use and abuse the pads. I probably have about 15 pads of each color. They probably get 100+ uses for the light cutting and cutting pads. The finishing pads probably get close to 200. Now this is just a guestimate!

The cutting pads will last a lot less because of the abuse they take. The finishing pads last longer because you aren't applying any pressure and aren't using high speeds.

Wow! Right on!

I had no idea they lasted that long. I'll never need to replace my pads in that case.

Many thanks, once again.

I forgot to mention that every once in a while you will get a pad that wants to separate from the velcro and they won't last as long. Lake Country has changed their design and that rarely happens now. I've been very impressed with their pads lately, you can't beat LC quality.

Have you ever had any concave? I used a 4" orange pad once just on the roof of my Expedition and the center caved in and never returned. I threw it out.

I don't think I've ever had a pad do that. Now, I've caught them on an emblem by accident and took a big chunk out of one before!
