Headlight lens

Long story short I heated my headlights in the over to peel them apart to custom paint the inside... The heat put a ton of WEEEEEEEEE Little "scratches" all of the lens, can I use M80 on a Yellow Megs pad to get them out? Will it leave them nice and shiney?

The scratches are about this size -
I cant feel them by rubbing my finger over them but if I take my nail over em I can just barely feel em
I cant see them in all lighting just in certain angles.

By mirrors, I assume you mean headlights as the title suggests. You can try Megs PlastX on them. I'm not sure how that compares to 80 but I'm sure you can try 80.

You may need to wetsand them, followed by M105 and PlastX.

are you talking about scratches or tiny small looking cracks?when you turn you headlights on you will see them more.if it is what im thinking about then there isnt anything you can do about them because it is stress cracks from the heat in the oven,thats one of the reasons i got rid of my painted headlights.

^^^ X2. From experience Plastic X is great but only removes small scratches and oxidation. If they are literally cracks I don't know how you'd fix that (if at all). Pics?

I can only feel them on the outside of the lens... Inside is completely smooth... How can I fix them they ain't real deep obviously

gic- thanks for the link... $40 bones is a little steep but...

I went to walmart tonight and got some turtle wax Rubbing Compound, Polishing compound, and Meguiars PlastX

Do yall think this will work? If I use the Rubbing compound followed by the Polishing, and then finally the PlastX? All applied by hand.

Let me know how yall think this will work...

Nope, I've tried stuff like that. It doesn't work worth a crap, especially by hand. Get the kit, and you can make your money back doing restorations for others.

Ok gic I ordered the kit... Hope it works! I should wet sand till all the little marks are gone then step down to 105 then plastx right?

Yep. It comes with instructions.

1) Pre-wash or clean headlight area of vehicle.
2) Apply any type of masking tape to area around headlight.
3) Pre soak sand paper in a bucket of soap water for 10-15 minutes.
4) Take any type of empty spray container and fill with soap water.
5) Wrap sand paper around black rubber sanding pad. Spray soap water on headlight and sand area with sand paper keeping sand paper lubricated while sanding.
6) Dry headlight.
7) Attach backing plate to electric or cordless drill.
8) Attach wool-buffing pad to backing plate.
9) Use M105 with wool pad and buff out sanding marks using small brush in between applications to clean pads.
10) Repeat same procedure with yellow foam pad and Plastx.
11) Wipe down headlight area and remove tape.

To clean pads with brush. Run drill at low RPM and apply brush to surface of pads while wheel is running. Do this procedure when pads start to load up during buffing.

Note - this will remove any UV-protective coating on the lenses - so you will be committed to periodic treatment with PlastX.

OK cool... So you have used this before and it worked well? How bad were the headlights you did it on? any pics?

When you wax your truck, make sure you wax your headlights as well. Better yet would be a good sealant but as long as you keep some kind of protection on them they should remain in pretty decent shape. If nothing else, you atleast won't have to repeat the process as often.
