Craftsman Orbital Polisher/Buffer
Craftsman Orbital Polisher/Buffer
Mom and Pops gave me one for Christmas and as I was reading through the manual it mentioned something about not using any abrasive products with the orbital. Now, I know your usual abrasives are generally for your DAs and your rotaries and what not, but I would think you would still be able to use them with this w/o any harm done. Anyone ever had any experience with using different products with these? Any tips or tricks to add?
I searched a bit and wound up with nothing so I thought i'd ask, I thought it would be a little more popular though even though most of your OCDers tend to shy away from these "waxers". Oh and i'm not sure if it makes a difference, but its rated at 2800 rpms.
Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone :santa:

Thought so, but i figure it'll save my arms a bit of work atleast. I don't expect it to work wonders like a G110 is capable of though. But I still would like to know if it's even possible to use any sort of abrasive with it, such as a light paint cleaner like DC 1, or maybe even something a little heavier like scratch X without messing up my paint. Or if theres anyone out there who has used one of these or something similar, do you have any suggestions on how to go about it
Either way, there are no "cheap" options under $100 if you want a new, quality unit. Your cheapest option for a real dual action polisher will be a Porter Cable, aka PC 7424. But, you might as well just go to ADS and get the more powerful G110 in one of their sweet packages at that point.
if i do end up dishing out the cash and ordering one of them from ADS, dont i need to start purchasing all the "professional" products for it or can the DA be used to apply, DC steps 1, and DC step 2 and nxt wax and OTC products like that? sorry for the dumb questions haha just dont know too much about the machines im used to doing everything by hand...like what pads will i need etc etc....i really want to use that m105 on my truck because its getting kind of bad with all the swirls on it, and i dont think that can be applied by hand

Yes, a DA can be used to apply OTC products. There is no *need* to buy professional products if the OTC stuff does the job to your satisfaction. Technique is a lot more important than specific products - even Nu Finish looks fine when used properly.
haha alright. one of these days ill make my purchase! it sounds like my truck really needs that M105 you guys talk about. can that be applied by hand? if so what would i top it off with? anyother things that would be similiar to the 105?
I would try swirl x when it comes out. It is supposedly "stronger" than m83. It uses the new micro abrasives that Meguiars uses in 105 and 205 and 151 etc. m83 doesn't so it is kind of like comparing apples to oranges. However one thing that is nice about the new products is that you can in a way limit its aggressiveness by how long and hard you work it. You could be our swirls x tester
haha yeah only thing is that i called Meguiars yesterday and i gotta wait til mid January he said to place an order. maybe ill order all three. scratch-x 2.0, swirl-x, and that other compound. haha
