Swirl marks
I have noticed some slight swirl marks in my clear coat, but only in the sunlight. My detailer says he can only get rid of them by wet sanding.I'm sure this is true in a worse case scenario, but from reading post' here,I think thats a bit much! Any suggestions I can give him without being out of line?
FYI, I took a black Suburban from this:

To this:

Your light swirls should be simple to remove with the correct compounds and polishes. I'd be VERY concerned of someone wanting to wetsand your entire truck to remove swirls.

Ditto!
My case in point
This was just wash, clay, DC #1, Meg's #9, Meg's #7, Meg's #26

Can someone guide me in the rite direction here? I can't afford a DA but have seen 6" and 10" orbital machines at Wal-Mart that I can afford. Can this type of machine be used to apply a swirl removal product? I don't want to rub until my arm falls off! And,can someone suggest a swirl removal product?
This is what I used on my black f150; in this order. I used an air powered DA and 3 different pads, one pad per product.
Megs. NXT car wash
Megs. clay bar kit
Megs. #9 Swirl remover 2.0
Megs. #7 Show car glaze
Megs. #26 Yellow wax
17 hours of labor over two days and not one swirl mark!! It looks like a black mirror. Take your time and work in small sections at a time. Have drugs handy, either liquid or pill form, for when you are done for the day. Have fun!

Just to give you some background on my ride, to help you see the difference. The first pic. that hwm3 posted is about what mine started at, mine was not as bad as that but pretty bad though.
The pic I posted is the finished job, that is the reflection shot of the door (you can see the bottom of the drivers side mirror in the top corner. That is what the whole truck looked like when finished!! That was my first time too all with the guidence of this place. Take it slow to start and you will find your groove every step gets a little better and better.

You can make some progress on swirl removal by hand, especially if you want the nickname Popeye. if you are going to buy a machine to assist you, then you need to get one capable of doing the job. a DA, or a flex are the best choices for a beginner.
the machines at walmart do not have enough speed or torque to get the job done, so don't waste your money.
you can get the basic you need for around $150 or so ..
in a word, no.
