Scratch-X Question

Scratch-X Question

has anybody used scratch-x on entire truck or can it be done? i realize you will use alot of that little tube up, but is it ok to do? will it help all my light swirl marks i have throughout my truck? thanks for any advice!

you can use it on your whole truck. You're going to have a sore arm and it's going to take forever. Just take it 1ftx1ft square at a time, work it well and move on.

But I would rather clay it or use a wax...

If u do both of those and scratch-X you'll love the results. As others stated its not gonna be fun but you'll like the results.

so, i can wash, dry, scratch-x whole truck, then wax? will the scratch-x take care of alot of my light swirls? just apply with an applicator pad im guessing then have a microfiber towel handy to buff?

Swirls should be tended to with a D/A buffer and polish, with yellow & orange MF pads. Scratch-X will just fill in scratches and eventually wear out, not immediately though.

i use scratch x on the whole truck.


i love the results. of course i have a 6 inch buffer and a 10 inch buffer, so its alot easier for me

you should probably clay it after washing. then wash again, then scratchX and so on.. I wanna do the same thing in a few weeks though, but man i just have a feeling its gonna take a good long day just for the ScratchX though. What would really work good after the scratchX would be the DC Polish and then put your coat of wax on, it'll probably give you that little bit of extra gloss. if you end up doing this soon, let us know how it turns out

whats DC polish? where do i get it? and for clay bar kit just go to advance auto or such and get the megs one they have?

the DC polish is a pure polish made by Meguiars, i think its the 2nd step in the Deep Crystal System. The first is a paint cleaner (which would be substituated by scratchX) and the third i think is a caranuba wax, which you can use pretty much any wax instead, i like Meguiars NXT tech wax though.

And yeah i'd get the Meguiars Clay kit, you get more clay than the Mothers kit and you get a MF towel with the Meguiars kit too. If you can, i'd get them at Wal-Mart, always a lot cheaper than advance or auto zone. Tomorrow when i get home i think i'm going to wash and try to apply a coat of cleaner wax to see how it works out some fine scratches and swirling though, have you tried this yet? I remember you had a thread going on it but couldn't remember if you tried it

i have a can of mothers carnauba cleaning wax. shined up my sisters black grand am well

Why not use meguiars swirl remover , it works for me .

You did say light swirls right ?

Finishes always seem to look worse than they really are with clear coats.

I've learned to go with the least abrasive product first and then step up if need be.

I've used scratch-X but only on deep scratches .

Meguiars has a clay bar the size of a bar of soap . I picked it up at a car parts shop that specialises in paint ect .

I like it much better than the generally dried out bar in the detailing kit .

They may sell it online .
