My pad looked just like that after I polished my perfectly clean white truck. Dont know why it does that. Good to see someone on here trying something else besides Meguires. How do you like the Menzerna FPII? I have have some and I like it a lot for a light polish. I want to get the SIP but I have spent enough on supplies this month.

the FIP is ok, but I was using it because I was too lazy to get up and reach for something else..
What I am trying to get at here is this ..
Black paint .. Black on the pad...

No clear or single stage. Possible repaint?
you are not buffin the paint off...haha... IF you ever polished throught the clear coat, then, when you hit the black paint, that black base coat would come off in about 2 seconds. you are not going to buff the clear away and reach color. unless you sanded with like 1500 like once a month. you can burn it tho. just always keep the buff machine moving.... dont hold it in one spot.

specifically, 46 year old single stage paint.
I think he was just quizing the masses... Trust me here, Gip knows his single stage.
Haha. I was sitting here thinking to myself, "Man, there must be some new people here." Heh. Can't wait to see the results Gip.
Somehow I am not surprised that it was a pop quiz...
I also somehow thought he was going to be working on something special, not just another SS car, but a beauty... Guess I was right on both guesses...
It was funny though watching people tell Gip about buffing technique... if only they knew him... LOL!

advice is always appreciated.
as evidenced by the answers in this thread .. there are a couple of things that can cause this ..
also as mentioned by a couple of people .. when working single stage paint, you need to really be careful as you mess with things .. the paint is softer, and usually does not need as much massaging as a clear coat does.
Any ideas for what has caused this? I have no clue, other than some type of solvent, or cleaner..
this is after washing and claying.
