Question Engine degreasers

I have an '05 and I was wondering if those engine degreasers you see at the hand car wash stations are safe to use? My engine compartment is looking its age these days.

Howdy! I am being fairly hypocritical at the moment, as my engine bay looks like GARBAGE have not had the opportunity to clean it since i've been in so its gonna have to live with it until the upcoming 96...but I do know that the best way to clean an engine bay is doing it by hand! Do not use those do it yourself drive in car-washes, total garbage and you will probably end up just messing something up. Those brushes etc. are normally used to clean the undercarriage, and meaty parts by offroaders in your area (I do it with all my friends all the time, I feel bad for the people that do use them to wash their cars could only imagine the micromarring its causing, due to all the rocks etc. in the brushes). The best way to do it is a fairly time consuming way, but it pays off. I would use a bunch of shop rags w/ 1:1 ratio of Simple Green solution, then top all the plastic parts off with Hyper Dressing, that will have to be diluted as well (not sure on the proper dilution ratio though). Hope this helps!

I'd go with a 10:1 ratio of SG. Maybe that's just me, but that stuff is really strong and if it is not diluted enough, it can mess things up.

I did at 1:1 last time because I used to go mudding as much as possible, and it was demolished. At the moment it is still demolished from the last time (about a year ago) lol so its a bit neglected at the moment, just don't have the time yet. Can't wait for this 96.
