i dont know if these are good enough or not. if they arent, then i will have to take some tomorow after work. its 8:30 CST here, so the sun is pretty much gone.

the paint isnt really all that bad. only in spots. but i have a ton of surface scratches im hoping to buff out.

Post up a list of your products and supplies, and we'll see what you may still need. Then we can go from there.

off the top of my head i know i have:
>armor-all tire shine
>megular's shampoo stuff (running low)
>F21 & megular's hot rims wheel cleaner (running low)
>about 10-12 small micro-fiber clothes
>bucket (lol)
>hose (duh)
>spray nozzle w/ 7 settings (if that matters)
>windex for tinted-window (ammonia free)

thats all i can think of off the top of my head. i think i have some megular's wax that came with my little bundle, but im not sure.

So, you've got the basics to wash it. Sounds like the only other thing you need to wash it is a wash mitt. MF ones are really soft. Lambs Wool Mitts are nice too.

If you don't mind doing a couple of steps, I'd try to find some M80 Speed Glaze and then some wax like NXT 2.0 or M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax. M80 will clean and polish, and it still works well by hand. Then you have either of those waxes, which are both generally easy to locate, to seal in your hard work! NAPA can usually get any of the Mirror Glaze Meguiar's products and other stores like Autozone and CSK carry some too. If you can't find them locally, you can order them along with a wash mitt and applicator pads at www.autodetailingsolutions.com. This would probably be the cheapest way to get great results. If you don't mind spending a bit more (don't we all say that!), you could get another thing or two to help things a little more.

ok. i know that i got one applicator pad (the little yellow circle one, right?) with my megulars kit. ive never waxed a car period before, and have been wanting to do so to my truck for sometime, to get the paint back to amazing, so my dad is going to help with the waxing part. i pretty much have the washing down to an art.

i will post up if i have anymore questions or run into any problems.

thanks for the help!

Dirty, I think you are on the right path here. Its not too difficult to bring your finish back to a level that you will be proud of. These guys will walk you through the steps, and once there, its actually pretty simple to keep it up.

There are 5 basic steps:
  1. Wash- to remove any loose contaminants and dirt off of the paint.
  2. Clean- clay to remove bonded contaminants and use a paint cleaner to remove surface defects.
  3. Polish- to restore shine, gloss, and depth to the paint.
  4. Wax- to protect the paint from the elements and seal in the polish.
  5. Maintain- using proper techniques to keep the paint defect and contaminant free.

ok. now i have a few questions. are you talking about clay that comes from the ground? if so how does it work? and do i need to prevent the truck from drying inbetween each step?

No way! Though, it is like a high tech version of it. You would be interested in the first one there, the kit. http://www.autodetailingsolutions.co...-clay-bars.htm

You spray a mist and wipe detailer onto the paint for lubrication, and you rub the clay round and round, back and forth until it is smooth as glass. It will pull off all sorts of goodies from the paint.

As for the last part of your question, I'm not quite understanding it. Like water after washing it?

In all reality, if you wanted, you could clay and then use something like Color X. Color X is a strong cleaner wax and will most likely make it look better if it hasn't ever been cleaned and waxed. It really just depends how much time, money, and effort you want to put forth because if you don't really want to spend a lot of time on it, well, you won't. For some people, simple and quick is better.
