Cool Ok Thump, I went with your recommendation on this one!

just bought this kit from Autogeek....

http://autogeek.net/hk7424.html

except for I went to the bottom of the page and ordered the HD package (25ft cord and 2 yr. warranty)

I just didn't like what I was hearing about the G110 and knew this one was tried and true!

Can't wait to get some new products and give this thing a shot!

6.5" pads are too big for the PC. And the 5" BP is to small for 6.5" pads.

so far i've only seen 6.5" pads for DA's.... on ADS the Meguiar's, Lake Country, and Cross Cut Flex pads are all 6.5"....

would Autogeek really package that stuff together if it didn't work?

autogeeks kits come with a 5in backing plate and 5.5" pads. Theyre basic kit which is two oranges and two whites both 5.5". but im almost positive that all the BP's they give you are 5's.

wait, so the backing plate that comes with a PC is 5 in. does that mean a 5.5 or 6.5 cannot fit on it, or what? Why would they give you 6.5's and 5.5's in this kit if they couldn't fit

The velcro on the back of the pads doesn't cover the entire area so the BP is smaller.

No a 5.5 fits you just have to align it good when you get it youll see it bumbed me out at first but its fine. the 6.5 is diffrent maybe they gave you a diffrent BP. Email them they'll be happy to help you.

I didnt feel like explaining it this morning, sorry. But first of all, I never said this set up wouldn't work or doesnt fit. Second, AG sells this kit because people buy it. But it simply isnt a very effective setup.

First off, the PC is a pretty weak machine. Its correction abilities are very limited and when it does correct it takes forever (when done right). The 6.5" pads are pretty large pads. They add more weight, surface tension, and rotating mass. Therefore, you slow down the rate of correction even more. Reducing the pad size will shorten the time it takes down the polish and allow you to correct much better. When I was using the PC, I would use 4" pads a lot, its that much more effective.

Now, a 5" backing plate with a 6.5" pad makes no sense to me. Theres a whole 1.5" where the pad will be skimming the paint because the BP isnt behind it to support it. This can lead to a number of problems, one of which not breaking down the polish correctly. Especially if your passes arent overlapping by more then 1.5". I use a 4 3/4" backing plate with 5.5" pads. A 5" blate will work well too.

I have expressed this concern with the people at AG and I believe they will put together a kit with 5.5" pads too.

I will agree with you on the 5" backing plate and 6.5" pads.... maybe I'll get a 6" backing plate as well... I did find one of those here:

http://www.specialtymotoring.com/bupaandac.html

as far as the 5.5" pads, where do you get those?

The G100 uses a 5" backing plate, correct? The Meguiar pads are 6.5", correct? If so, there is no problem with it especially for a domestic vehicle's paint. I've had no problems with my G100 and Meguiars pads. The only thing that has ever not cleaned up was water etching that needed to be wet sanded. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, I've been in the hospital, I'm still in a lot of pain so I won't be on too much.
