Clay Bar Question

I need to get more clay and I am not sure what one to get. I originally bought the Meguiars Smooth Surface Kit and I have a little clay left but not enough to do my truck, wife’s truck and my dad's car. SO I need to order up some more just not 100 % sure which one to get.

On ADS site he has a couple of listed: http://http://www.autodetailingsolut...-clay-bars.htm
I was thinking the mild blue would be the correct one to buy. If so how much does one buy? I mean how far does that 200 gram bar go?

It depends on the condition of your paint. If its in fairly good condition, then you might only need a mild clay bar. If its in bad condition then you might need a moderate- aggressive clay bar.

I like Mothers, Pinnacle poly, or Sonus green as mild clays. Clay Magic blue as moderate. And Top of the line purple as aggressive. Cut the piece into 3 pieces.

Why not just buy another Meguiar's retail kit with the white clay? Some Walmarts have it, as do most Autozones.

I would keep with the Meguiars.

Clay clay clay clay clay. You never have enough of this stuff. I cut it into 4 pieces and go through 1 piece per vehicle. I have blue, red, and purple, but Ive never had to use the red or purple so far. Megs clay is fine, they all are essentially the same, go with what you like. Once I burn through a clay piece, it never touches paint again. I will use it on exhaust or other metal parts.

I've tried several brands of clay...

My personal opinion is that 'medium' clay is 'medium' clay and 'aggressive' clay is 'aggressive' clay...

In short, for most people, the standard 'medium' or 'mild' or 'light' clay is going to do the job - in fact, I'll go out on a limb and say that most would equate out to 95% of people who would even consider claying (rationale: if you're going to clay, odds are that you've kept up with your paint and have kept your vehicle washed and have given it a moderate amount of attention).

A 200-gram bar will be more than sufficient for several uses (hint: like 03mustang mentioned, cut it into 3 pieces - by doing this, you'll have an easier piece to work with and won't be as upset when you drop a piece on the ground that you then need (and should) throw away).

So, in summary... clay is clay.

There are 3 kits that I have seen in retail stores - Meguiars, Mothers, and Clay Magic. Can I assume they are all mild clay for general consumer use, and the only real difference is what else is packed in the box and how many grams of clay you get?

Thanks guys.. I have clayed the truck back on Jan and I am going to be doing it again soon when I find some time to do a full detail. Just wanted to make sure I was going to get the correct clay.

Plus I need to order up some other goodies from ADS. I am going to try out Hyperdressing and see if I fall in love with it like the rest of the OCDer's on here..

Correct, unless the box says differently, they are all mild. I have yet to see anything other than mild at normal auto stores. Most contain the same grams as well. Just different QDs that each brand has.
