Bit the bullet

and 100$ later i got a lot of hard work ahead of me...
New hose and nozzle
Meguiar's:
Gold class car wash and two buckets(one to rinse the MF mitt and one for soap)
Clay magic clay bar/ QD
deep crystal paint cleaner
two tubes of scratch x
Step 2 polish
Gold class wax
more MF buffer pads that i care to imagine(my buffer takes elastic 7" wraps not actual pads like a DA does)
my trusty craftsman 7" orbital right angle buffer (had it forever, great for tight spots)

and this...

what im curious about is when is the best time to do the scratch X? before or after i do the clay bar? im half tempted to clay bar, then use the deep crystal paint cleaner then just go over most of the truck with scratch X and a buffer so i cover every possible scratch. then seal it all up with polish and wax

I'm pretty sure its always wash dry clay then SX. At least thats what i do. It may take multiple passes of SX to get scratches out... it took me about 4 when i did mine by hand. I've never really used a paint cleaner so someone else will have to chime in on that.

Anyways good luck with your truck. I can't wait for my order to come in so i can get working on mine.

Typically, I do it in the following order:
wash
clay
Cleaner/paint correction
S-X
the rest of the stuff

Why? My own logic, NOT, repeat NOT, what others have told me, says that the least agressive method will alleviate some of the big problem. In other words, the cleaner may just take out an inch of the scuffs on the hypothetical paint, so only use S-X after you have narrowed down your frame of reference. It also allows you to see the capabilities of the products you work with.

Keep in mind the addage taught to me by Master RockPick: ALWAYS use the LEAST aggressive method FIRST.

That's what I would do...

MY DISCLAIMER:
The idea to do it like that is, to the best of my knowledge, from my own intuition. If I read it anywhere I cant remember where. As such, I am not liable if it ends up sucking. RP may chime in if he differs in opinion, because to be honest, I havent the foggiest as to his order. But I bet he washes before his LSP Okay, that was dumb to the point that I need to go to sleep...

G'Night!

Might be misunderstanding what ScratchX is for. (I could be wrong)

Generaly SX isn't applied to the whole vehicle. Although it can be.
It's not something that you put on like a polish. If you do a whole vehicle it will take a lot of time. It must be "worked". I had a friend that recently put it on like a polish and was very unhappy after it as it left the paint worse than it was to start with (some marring and no scratch removal). Then was very happy when I sent him back out to work it in correctly. It's one that needs to be worked over a scratch with some "vigor" till it breaks down. I'd not use your orbital with it. Everything else you're using the orbital will work fine with.

General order will be

Wash
Dry
Clay
ScratchX (possibly after cleaner)
Cleaner
Polish
Wax

Good catch, JGG! I missed that.
That order still makes me wonder. Now that I see that others do it differently, I am really curious to get some insight as to what RP/Gipraw/Boss/RR would do...

Meguiars says that ScratchX should be used by hand, but the latest formulation may be used with a DA.

Spot on...

Don't move to the next step until you've completed the step that you're on to your satisfaction.
