Little spots that look like RUST !!!

Went to wash the truck today, and about had a stroke.
I have what looks like rust spots all over the side of truck (lower panels), I was pissed when I saw it cause I thought it was rusting out already after less than a year of ownership.
But after looking further its on the plastic trim around the wheel wells also so im hoping its not rust.
Not sure what it is but whats the way to get the crap off.
Ive tried bug and tar remover. Some cleaner/wax which seemed to help on some spots but not all.

Clay it. Its probably due to salt, rail dust/brake dust, other stuff....clay should remove it.

Read the sticky.

Cheers

Pictures would be good to help us determine exactly what it is .. Do you park by any Oak Trees? Clay will remove it though. Clay will also remove all of the wax etc so you'll need to re-wax.

A quick search on "rail dust" might help you too. Small iron particles can come from more than just railroad tracks too. Even wonder what happens to the cutting edges on snow plows as they wear down?

Lighter colors like white get it bad in these parts. It's not just winter, either. I had a "Speedway White" Corvette that got those little orange spots all over it, summer driving only.

A buddy let me try this stuff,
http://www.autobarn.net/xxxws-3.html

It actually did a decent job, just did a few spots at a time. Let it sit for a few minutes and smaller spots were gone, larger ones went over twice. Even tried it on my chrome steps and it cleaned those up too!

Still think im gonna clay bar the truck though, just gotta find the time to get r done.

Honestly you could have clayed it in the same amount of time or less than what you have already tired.

We (The OCD'ers)say to clay it so that we can better assess what you are dealing with and most of us predict that clay is going to solve it.

That stuff is called "rail dust" or commonly known as industrial fallout.
