2 coats of wax?

I'm almost ready to detail my truck before the winter and I had just one more question. Should I put two coats of wax (NXT tech wax)? I dont know if its better for protection or if it is a waste.

Waste in my opinion, what isn't a waste is the steps prior to wax. I myself like to use a pre-wax cleaner or now swirl remover from Meguir's, followed by clay (Mother's) and finally Eagle One Nanowax, 1 coat and it does well. I don't see 2 coats hindering anything, but not gaining much either.

For most products, 2 coats gives you more of a warm fuzzy feeling than actual additional protection. If you have a really lousy application technique and miss lots of spots on your first pass though, a second coat might actually help. Then of course there's the advice for the OCD: 10 coats.

For prepping for winter, I'd say it'd be good to put on 2 - 3 coats. At the very least, it'll give you that warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

It will benefit more for coverage...like the above said but i dont think will add any protection...but i guess it couldnt hurt..just make sure to wait 12 hours between each application to let the NXT cure.

Two coats of wax is NOT a waste, it's needed IMO.

Did I read that right, you used a cleaner polish then you clayed?

My family owns several car washes and it would be a waste in my opinion. All wax is a clear layer that goes over you pain to protect it by putting on two coats you are not making is any better ot longer lasting.

I disagree. It depends on the kind of wax you are working with. S100 looks great with two coats, so does Zanio, PoorBoys Natty's etc.

What kind of car washes does your family own?

Sorry. Hope it didn't come off like that. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Maybe I should of said:

"Well......it depends on the product, some products work well stacked or layered while others only need one coat"

Case in point:
Cleaner wax is useless with more than one application: The cleaners/abrasives remove the wax layer you add with each application.

HOWEVER: Waxes/sealants such as #21, NXT, #26, Nattys, etc, etc, etc work FANTASTICALLY when stacked; moreover, simple algebra/arithmatic/physics tells us that if one layer takes x amount of time to degrade in the environment, 2 layers should take approximately 2x the time...

As for automatic car washes, those are in a COMPLETELY different realm than detailing. You can call your wash a "detail" because it gets the undercarriage and applies some cheapo wax, but a TRUE detail is MUCH more involved than that...

Enough on that topic... Back to Seattle.
